Sam is our new Goldendoodle, 12 weeks. The first week he slept until 6am. Now, he insists by 5am that he is getting up, going out. He gets into the kennel fine at night, hardly whimpers, but by 5am, he makes his presence known. Should we just shut the door and let him howl, teach him 6am is correct time, or let him go out, put him back in kennel until 6am?
Hi everyone- We are new to this site. I was also hoping for advice on the same subject. Malley does usually wait till she hears us moving around 6am- however, once she does she totally barks her head off! I am a very slow mover in the morning- so I used to always hit snooze when my husband would head for the shower. Now I have to get moving pretty quickly if I don't want a headache (she's very loud)!!! We live in an old house w/ lots of creeky floors. Last night however- she woke up at 3:30am and started barking! She did stop around 4am- I just don't understand why she does this from time to time??? How can I get her to not bark so much??? A cry would be so much nicer! She doesn't bark through the day- why at night?
You really need to just condition her to wait longer, so you will hear her bark for awhile. Most likely she knows barking loud gets you to move quickly. Where is her crate? Is it in your bedroom?
Thanks for responding! Her crate is down stairs and our bedrooms are upstairs. Once I know I can trust her to be completely potty trained, she will probably sleep w/ our kids and I'm guessing the barking will stop at that point. Do you think that if her crate was moved to one of the boys bedrooms that maybe that would help? If it didn't- I would not be able to just ignore her because then she would wake them up!!!- thats why I haven't tried it yet. She is only 14wks old- but she is such a good puppy in all other areas that I really want to brake her of this:)
Puppies like to be near you so it might help to move it upstairs. They are pack animals and don't typically sleep off alone. Riley is 17 weeks and his crate has always been in my bedroom. He has never had a problem going in it when it is time for bed, and has always been happy in it.
OK thanks. I will try it in one of our sons rooms. I would love to have her in my room- but the boys have more space since their beds are smaller:) Not to mention they would be mad if I didn't let her sleep w/ them!Keep your fingers crossed that this helps! She does like her crate- so that is a plus! And we have a soft sided one that is easy to move around and light in weight. I will try to keep you informed. Thanks again!
