Our puppy will come to us having been started on Iams puppy. I want to switch over to solid Gold Hundchen Flocken Puppy. The owner of the pet store sold me the Holistic Transition to add to the Solid Gold and said that I wouldn't have to buy Iams to mix in for the transition. She will be 8 weeks when she comes home. Has anyone used this or have an opinion about it?

Yes I have heard of Eagle Pack, and it is suppose to be a good food and I would still add it a little at a time and gradually make the change over, there are other brands as equally good and better, such as Wellness, or Fromm. Fromm is great because you can purchase it in a variety of foods and never have to worry about the switching, they have salmon and sweet potato, whitefish and potato, chicken, and a few others, and you can switch every month with no side effects or a gradual change, and your pup is getting a great variety of food.
Thanks, this isn't the Eagle Pack food. It's a powder that you add to the new food to aid the transition. Sorry I wasn't very clear.
I haven't heard of this product, but I am always suspicious of advice or information about a product coming from the person who will make money if you buy it. Especially if this is really a "pet" store that actually sells pets. It must be a digestive enzyme of some kind.
I would ask my breeder to send a couple days supply of your puppy's food along, that's fairly standard I believe. Leaving her mom & litter & acclimating to a new home is stressful enough, even without any changes in diet. I would hate to have to buy Iams, too, but I really think in this case it would be best for your baby.
Thanks I think you're right. I let him talk me into it then had buyer's remorse.Oh well, better to make the mistake of buying it - than using it and causing a problem!
When you are switching food you should mix 50% of the old and 50% of the new and gradually add more of the new and less of the old until you have made the change. I live in Indiana and that is where Eagle pack is made, they have lots of different kinds and are a very good food, I have 2 dogs and I have used Eagle Pack.
Hi Amy, I just took a look at this product and basically it is digestive enzymes and probiotics. I do advocate using such a product ~ regularly ~ not just in transitions. I have no experience with this product in particular, our favorite is 'Wholistic Pet' Digestive enzymes if that was all we were seeking to add, we use Wholistic Canine Complete Joint Mobility which also has this as an ingredient and keep the straight enzymes around for when we need an extra boost. In our house when we change foods often they pick out all the new and leave the old, so transitioning with a blend is not always effective. Use of a digestive enzyme will help if you encounter a similar situation. Sometimes situations also arise that require an abrupt change and again this would prove useful.

Since we have begun using a digestive enzyme daily, even with super premium food, on even our puppies we have experienced numerous benefits. One thing to keep in mind with regard to this is that symptoms are that which is visible to us and most of the time we treat them from the outside in rather than solving the problem with healing from the inside out so that the symptoms cease to be. Many people use yogurt as a treat or supplement, but for day in and day out use breaking down the dairy can be difficult on their system. A healthy digestive tract leaves dogs less vulnerable to opportunistic issues, in puppies specifically this can be parasites - round, tape and hook worms, coccidia and giardia. Because puppies are exposed to many chemicals in the form of customary wormers and vaccines digestive enzymes make good sense. D.E.'s also help to ensure that the food is broken down and used properly. If you are paying for premium food I am sure you wish to ensure it is being utilized to its full benefit. Last many premium foods list this as an ingredient though I suspect it is a scant amount.

I presume you will be using the 'holistic' Eagle Pack rather than the straight Eagle Pack right? Also Eagle Pack and Wellness are one and the manufacturer is now listed as Pet Pac.
Thanks Dianne, Yes it is the Holistic Transition by Eagle Pack. Directions say to mix a small amount of the previous food with the new food and spinkle 1 Tbs. of the powder on the mixture once daily for about 7 days refridgerate opened bottle. All of this is quite new to me. I have to admit I had not thought too much about it with our past dogs, nor with our 6 year old Maggie (mix spaniel). We did feed grocery store food. I found this site and have started to learn so much. We do want to start the puppy off on the right foot and hopefully avoid future problems. We have switched Maggie to Solid Gold and it's going well but she's a picky eater. I really appreciate the information.
