Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello!

A week ago I got my beautiful LD (Molly). Vet check on Mon. went well. She has been peeing more than usual the past few days. Just small amounts, randomly in the house. She has winced a few times when doing this. Take her out A LOT!!! lol Going to call vet tomorrow and try to "capture" some urine and bring to vet. Anyone ever had a female with a UTI???? Thanks!!!

Carol, our labradoodle is now 14 weeks old, but at 11 weeks she started acting to me like she had a bladder infection. She peed frequently with very little coming out...Since it was a weekend and our vet is a drive away, I looked up stuff on the internet. Several people suggested giving cranberry extract (like people). I wasn't comfortable doing that so I subscribed to an online vet question site and had a very lengthy conversation with a vet. Her recommendation was to give cranberry extract, half a 500 mg capsule, twice a day. She said if she didn't improve that I should get her to a doctor as it sounded like a bladder infection. I happened to have the cranberry and for two weeks she's been getting it regularly. Her symptoms really stopped now. I tried to catch a sample, but it was very difficult...just made a mess! Her vet did examine her but didn't take a urine sample as she thought it wasn't necessary given her improvement of symptoms. This is just a suggestion. The vet also said we could give her cranberry juice, like 1/2 a cup at a time. I didn't want to give her all the sugar that was in the juice, so went for the extract. Good luck. They can't tell us if it hurts can they?
sonja...thanks so much. As a matter of fact I DO HAVE CRANBERRY EXTRACT on hand (love being a woman! lol) Did you sprinkle it on her food or add to water? Thanks!!!!!!

Carol
I don't know what you are feeding, but I homecook and add Crasins to their food. Never a UTI.
Yes, and we know how painful those UTIs can be! I scraped the extract out of half a capsule and put it in her food. The vet told me this dosage based on her weight, which was about 9 lbs then. I think I'll try a few Craizens now because my extract is running low, and our puppy is getting bigger. Craizens do have sugar added in the drying process though. I was glad to see others use the cranberry remedy too. The vet I talked to online said to give it a couple of days with the cranberry and if you don't see an improvement, get the puppy to a vet, because you don't want a true bladder infection to go too long.
