We currently have a great doggie door built into our brick that goes to our back yard. The problem is that the door was made for our dachshund Rootie, and we are about to bring home our new Standard goldendoodle Wrigley. We are definitely going to have the builder come out and replace the small door with a bigger door, but I'm not sure if I should wait and see how big Wrigley is going to get. For those of you with Doggie doors, do you think I'll be safe with the large door? I hate to wait until she's an adult to allow her this privilege. Plus I don't want her to see Rootie using the door, try to use it and get stuck! I'd appreciate any input. I'll attach a picture of the door we have now when I get home.
A large should do okay. I purchased a door that had a large one built in. My mini GD uses it, but so does my sister's Airedale and my friend's huge German Sherpherd!
I think large should be fine. My 92 lb rottweiler/husky mix as well as our GD puppy and 2 Pomeranians all share a large. It measures about 10 inches by 15 inches with a 5 inch rise off the floor at the bottom. All of them use it very comfortably. Our GD puppy is a bit over 6 months old and about 50 lbs...With this many fur babies our doggie door gets ALOT of use!
We've narrowed it down to two choices: the Tall, which is 11''x20'' and the Tall Grand, which is 11"X25''. My fear is that we are going to get one that is too small. Joni, I do feel better after reading your reply!
