For those of you who are planning on attending the Dewey Beach Romp, the police department is not open 24/7. My husband found out this morning that the license has to come from City Hall which opens at 9. On the weekends, it may be different. So, I would call and verify where and how to get the dog license required for the Romp so that you won't be disappointed.

I think that City Hall opens at 9 am on Saturday. Also, if you got the yellow Dewey dog license for a previous Dewey Beach doodle romp, there's no need to get a new one (unless you lost the license).
This will our first Dewey Beach Romp - I have not seen anything posted that we need a license. Please share what I need to do.
thanks
According to the Dewey Beach websites, you will need to get a license (valid for the dog's lifetime). I didn't think that they allowed dogs on Rehobeth Beach, but maybe they changed that. Here's the info about the license. And one correction to my earlier post: I looked at my email from Amy Scott (organizer) for last year's romp, and she said that you can get the license at the police station, which is open 24/7. The station is on Rodney Street in Dewey.

GENERAL RULES:
Dogs must be licensed, and the custodian of the dog must clean up after the dog.

Dewey is Dog-Friendly
One of the very few towns on the eastern seaboard to permit dogs to enjoy the sandy beach, Dewey has only a few restrictions on dog owners. The times the beach may be used by dogs is limited during the summer season, they must be under control, and of course the owners must clean up after them. Details can be found under "Beach Regulations."

. . .

Dogs must, however, be licensed. Licenses are only available to be purchased at the Town Hall. The fees, defined by the town code, are:

A. Dog license (valid for the life of the dog): $15.

. . .

You will need to tell us the date of the last rabies inoculation.

The town hall is open 9-5 each day. During the periods when the main window - left side of the lobby at entry - is closed, dog licenses may be purchased at the police window, right side of the lobby at entry.

If you should need a veterinarian, there is one about a mile north of our town hall; call (302) 227 2009.
