So it's our first beautiful day out and my husband deceides to put up our new gazebo. Unfortunatly our puppy wanted to help and as he was putting it up she started running around it and then through it!!!! She also deceided to chew it and steal some pieces. So now we have this new gazabo with holes. I wasn't home to help, but by the time I got home he was taking it down and putting it back in the box. Boy, was he mad. He doesn't remember the antics of our last dog when she was a puppy, he only remembers how good she was. Now I need to try and patch this new, expensive, dog toy !!!! I need to fix the netting and the material. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm so sorry this happened, but I guess that's why it's called Puppy Madness. How do you explain puppy behavior to non-dog people? Or even to irrate husbands. Maybe you could help him put it up and just explain to others that the dog was trying to help, but didn't read the directions. We once had a St. Bernard that ate a hole in the wall from the outside in. It was a great conversation starter. I think with puppies you just have to have a sense of humor, although at times this is impossible.
My husband just came in today and said Willy ruined his Maui Jim sunglasses - a pretty expensive pair. But he knows they should have been put away out of Willy's reach, so he is just mad at himself,
Willy has been pretty non-destructive, other than that. His biggest vice is paper, especially the soft white stuff that comes on a roll. No, not paper towels, it's the kind you keep in the bathroom. We had been concerned about Willy drinking from the toilet bowl, so are careful to keep the lid down. But he's only interested in unwinding the rolls of TP and running through the house with it. He even finds the spares and chews them up in little pieces. So now we don't worry about the seat being up, we just keep the bathroom doors shut tight.
Sorry this happened but you do have to laugh. They are so comical and if something is new...to them it's a new toy. I have learned to keep ALL the doors closed. The only people that suffer are my boys because they forget to close their doors and most of their socks have holes in them!! Lucca doesn't do the toilet paper but I did have a dog that did. Lucca likes kleenex, socks and underwear. He also chewed the back tabs off my husband's sneakers and the plastic tips off the laces. He wasn't too pleased about that either!!
I agree - I think you need to have a sense of humor when you have puppy. My husband has calmed down and we will try and repair the gazabo. So what if it has a few holes in it ! Things could be worse :0)
We are lucky that Ned doesn't like clothes, undies, shoes, walls. He loves toilet paper, trash, our carpet (which has a couple of bad spots from being pulled out thread by thread), and pillows - only those with zippers which he opens with his teeth before gutting the stuffing out. Ned did chew a computer charging cord (think he got a little shock with that one), and my glasses frame. BUT our Springer ate the corners off ALL of our new rugs. 3 couches cushion by cushion, the molding off our walls and our very brand new shoes - actually only one of each pair, just to name of few of his snacks! The Springer leapt through low window screens when we were on the other side - either in or out. He outgrew all of it and is the best dog. I think this is why we haven't been overly concerned about Ned's "puppy antics;" we still remember that it could have been worse.
Max hasn't bee too destructive ....yet! I *think* it is because I'm home and gave/give him freedom very slowly. When he is outside with us (we are building a patio with pavers), he is tethered so he can get close to us but not touch us or anything that may hurt him/get destroyed. Other than that - keeping a good sense of humor is the only other thing.
and ......
Just so your husband doesn't feel alone in his moments of 'ticked offness' ..... my Max has been perturbing me lately (read 10 minutes ago) because he has suddenly decided to use the Poochie Bells every 30 minutes (again) just so he can go outside and sniff around. He likes to start this habit just around 8pm. You know - when all the good television shows begin! *sigh*
Tethering wuld have been a good idea, and that's what I would have done - but it was my husband who started the project without talking to me first. I can't blame him to much though because he was trying to be sweet to surprise me so we could share some time outside alone.
And to the poochie bells - done that, been there, and I still am. I wonder if I can put a television outside???
Ok - Ned doesn't want me to tattle about him. How can I tell this? Well, computer on lap - Ned trying to get in lap, Ned laying with head on my typing arm. Put computer down to cuddle - Ned gets down. Computer on lap - and on and on and on.
