Hi there! Just joined, and this site is awesome...so much information, and we're loving all of the pictures =).
We're currently looking for a pup, and so far have really only found one local breeder. Have also contacted 2 other breeders that are a doable roadtrip ;). Just wondering if anyone can recommend a breeder in or around our area?
Hi Tracey and welcome! I don't live near you and can't recommend anyone from experience in your area. BUT I want you to read this article I started on "What To Look For In a Breeder" -- really important things to think about before you choose:
In addition to the groups we have on here (listed in the above link) that list breeders, you can also look at:
-- goldendoodles.com as they have a long list of owner recommended breeders AND you can see who does the health testing before you even consider them.
-- The Premium Breeder List is a list breeders pay to be on, but they only list breeders who do a certain level of health testing (I don't know if that is looked at continually or not) so it's worth looking there too.
I did! In fact we're getting our little guy from TidewaterK9 sometime in the next 2 weeks =D. Annesley is just really awesome to work with. I know 2 of her girls are done for the year (she only breeds them once a year), but not sure if she's planning a litter for her other gal, or maybe even her Doodle for F1B's. Have you spoken with her?
Yes, I have. I almost got one of her boys from the last 2 litters you got one from. I think she has 2 different girls she may breed since the one female only had 2 puppies in her last litter the vet said it would be ok to breed her again. I am thinking about sending my depoit there or maybe at Old Mill Doodles.
I have a 11 yo choc lab with medical problems so I am really trying to wait to get a puppy until the end of summer since I don't think my lab will make it thru the summer :(
You will have to let me know how you like your baby. Is he curly?
Oh yes, and if she does breed her again, boy will you get a gorgeous apricot baby! She's a very pretty red poodle (met her and her 2 pups when we first went to meet Annesley).
I'm so sorry to hear about your Lab =(. We lost our Golden Retriever last fall, and we miss him every day....
Annesley says our boy is beginning to curl! We visit him Sunday, so I'll let you know ;). He was just 4 weeks when we saw him, and 2 weeks makes a big difference...his ears were just starting to curl then.
Oh! And another breeder close to us is Doodlesville, down on the NC/VA border. Before I found Annesley I'd spoken with the gal at Doodlesville, and I was really impressed with the information she wanted about me and our family and home...really seems to care about where her pups go. If we hadn't found Annesley and lucked into a litter right then and there, I almost certainly would have driven to Doodlesville ;) (though I hadn't run across Old Mill, so don't know about them in comparison).
We're in VB, too, and just put down a dep. on a GD from Old Mill Doodles last night.
In our search we talked to a local breeder who (Annesley from Tidewater K9 in VB) seems very nice. Have you talked to her about their doodles and their training programs? We might actually still use them for their puppy training classes. FYI, for anyone still looking for a puppy from K9 I don't think they are expecting a litter until late summer though if I remember correctly. ;-)
I'm driving to Staunton, VA to pick up my puppy later this month. I know that Old Mill Doodles still has some males left...which is how we are getting Atticus! Valerie from OM has invited us up to look the pups over prior to taking ours home. We're so excited we can't stand it!
Wendy, how is your puppy doing? Fill us in on if there are any Doodle Romps locally or not. I didn't know if anyone else from here was on the board that might know.
Wanna pick one up for me? lol... I would love to have one. My old lab has some medical problems and we got to the vet Monday again. I will know more about his quality of life then....
Which litter did you pick from? I can't wait to get a puppy. I have been asking for a year to get one! Did she send recent pic's you could upload or forward?
Deciding on which litter is the problem! We are trying to narrow it down to either from Roxy's or Sassy's litters, but they also have males from Jaz's and possibly Lemmy's going home in May, too. Valerie is going to help us decide which pup might be the best fit from Roxy and Sassy's. There are pics of the ones we're interested in (Baxter and Toby) on the website. Their females really did all go into heat at the same time, didn't they? Mr. Parker the poodle was a busy boy!
No new pictures yet. But, I promise to upload them as she sends them.
BTW, I just made a new group called Tidewater Goldendoodles so we can all find each other! Join up when you can. After my new puppy gets all settled in and is parvo protected, I'd love to attend a romp at some point!
Hi ladies! I will have to go find that group. Reno passed last Saturday :( We were all so upset that when my husband looked at me and asked what I wanted for Mother's day.. I said a puppy. So i found a lisa Wyndhom in Lynchburg in the Richmond paper and am getting Motta or Mo from her. I go on Friday th 15th to go pick him up.
Can't wait to see my new pup. I see you are going to get yours Saturday. Good luck on your drive too! I have an 8 hr round trip!
Oh Wendy, I'm so sorry to hear about Reno. Even when you know it's coming, it's still so hard....
Can't wait to see pics of your new pup! I'd all but forgotten what it's like to live in puppy world, so I haven't hardly had a chance to get pics up myself =S. But we're having fun! Well, when not cleaning up pee accidents and such.... ;)
