Doodle Prejudice

The other day there was a man who entered the dog park with his beautiful red haired dog and when asked by another gentleman if his dog was a doodle he was quick to respond "No, he's a standard poodle, I don't support doodles." Luckily after I introduced him to Foster, he lossened up a bit and was very interested in my reasons for not choosing a pure bred poodle. I think that after awhile he seemed to understand that although Foster and his dog both had similar coats, they were very different dogs and we were each lucky to have the right dog for our family.

How do you handle situations like this when people make negative comments about Doodles?? Does it happen often?

We get the "doodle " haters a few times a month , mostly from lab or golden breeders. Many with huge genetic problems.. but they still are " Pure Breed "...
I try to tell people (if they seem like they will listen) that ALL purebreed dogs are designer dogs
There are no wild poodles of Africa...roaming terriers of the plains. wolves are the only dogs that were not designed by humans
This is just the beginning of a new dog breed the same way Rottie came from the Dobie.. ( or the other way, I can't remember).

The thing we get with a lot more negative energy is the " Do not breed while shelters have dogs DYING... you are killing a pound puppy,,,etc..."

I have 3 response.. In increasing levels of crankiness ;-)

1) I have several parrots and 2 cats, I needed a puppy that I could raise to respect and be safe around my current family members,.mellow and smart.. non-shedding without the terrier killer instinct
Birds are prey animals and very sensitive to danger. As it was 2 of my birds pulled their feathers out when Chili arrived... It is a family everyone has to be taken in to consideration

2) Do you think that all children of the world's orphans should be adopted before people are allowed to have their own children??..There are millions of orphans. some people do not want the issues of abused children .... abused dogs are also a huge responsibility if you can EXCELLENT but it is not work that everyone can handle.

or IF I am in a BAD MOOD.... So the only kind of breeding you approve of is irresponsibly letting your dog breed and
dumping the dogs in pounds...so you can adopt them..

I get a lot more positives response then negative but I hate it when my happy boy runs into someone who hates him for nothing he has done.. just because he is... my sweet happy boy loves everyone.... every living thing... that breaths
