I am wondering if they are really hot in the summer if we left their coat long or not...
Should I get her cut short for the summer? Does it help to keep her cool?

I think that depends on your habits and hobbies - does she like the water? If yes -I prefer a shorter cut in the summer. My experience is that it isn't that they are so much cooler with shorter cuts as they don't need to be brushed as much. Hence - when they are hot and tired - we are not nagging them with a comb and brush as often. (that is my Tibetan - she doesn't like the whole grooming thing. My doodle is fine with it) Its also much easier to find ticks on them when they are cut shorter - if you are in the woods or an area that has this problem. It is easier to wash them - if they play with other dogs and get dirty from all the mouthing and slopping around each other. In my experience,- it comes down to your lifestyle and if you really identify with her long shaggier look, or really don't care. I keep Koji short for the reasons above.
That makes sense. Charlie loves to play with water, and we do go to the hiking trail a lot.
May be I should consider about the hair cut...
She is still a puppy, yet, and her coat is only about 1 1/2 inches.
Last summer Chelsea was quite relieved when she got her summer cut. Before the cut her hair was quite long and she was feeling too miserable so I had it cut short. I must say, she was much happier!
How short is short? My neighbor took her cockapoo in for a clip yesterday. Cashew came back shaved; a little too short for my tastes. We live in Atlanta and Harlow is already laying on the air conditioning vents or on the cool wood floors where ever there is a cross breeze. I think it may be time for a summer cut, but I am not sure how short to go. Any recommendations?
