On Saturday, Gus, my almost 2 yr. old male F1 labradoodle, and I went to the dog beach. This is the first time that we went to the dog beach/park without his older/dominant 4 1/2 yr. old bich-poo sister. When we arrived he was playing with the other dogs, going in the water, marking everything insight...including the people standing and sitting. This is the first time he has ever done anything like this. The only difference that I can think of is that his sister wasn't there. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please pass them along. (Also, I am new to this, and I initially sent a message to the group rather than start a discussion...sorry for the duplicate question)
Is he neutered?? I don't have any advice for you - not a clue!! But, maybe he was just taking advantage of the fact that his more dominant sister wasn't there so he thought he'd play dominant for a change. What did those people say / do when he tried to mark them??!! I have seen a dog do this (un-neutered) at the dog park, but he peed on his owners which I interpreted as a lack of respect for them.
You might want to try posting this queestion on the main discussion forum, where some of the trainers might see it and have some suggestions for you.
Gus is neutered. He didnt seem to discriminate between men and women...he did it to both...including me. He didn't seem to be acting differently with Candie not being there...except for the "people marking". Thanks so much for your help. I will bring a spray bottle next time...he does respond to that.
I have no clue as to why he might do this but one of the times we were at the dog park a strange dog came over to all of the doodles milling about me and peed. He got my foot but I really couldn't tell where he was aiming.
