Oily fur around ears

Does anyone elses Doodle's fur get oily around the ears? (More than the rest of the fur) Any special tips on controlling it?

It happens to Max. I trim that fur a little shorter. Ear cleaner works a bit but the best thing seems to be shampooing that area - making sure to plug his ear when I rinse. I use my finger to plug his ear but you could use cotton. I also make sure to add ear cleaner or ear powder to the ear after his bath to make sure the water is absorded and/or evaporated out of the canal.

Daisy can have this problem. I agree shampoo and keeing the hair shorter around the ears.

When I noticed that on Lucy, she ended up with an ear infection. Check the ears, are they smelly, any black tarring goop in there???????

No smell and no infection.

Nope--nothing unusual. They could use a cleaning--but other than that they seem fine!

HMMMMM, then I guess just keep the hair clipped really close around the ears.

it is important to keep the ears clean, they are like your nose and run~

Clean weekly using a baby wipe or special ear wipe, this should help.

Also shave the hair under the ear, from ear to ear going under the chin. This is called the Chin Strap or Throat Latch. This will help air flow and reduce heat and drainage.

Ned's fur gets kind of oily there too. Doesn't seem to mean anything and probably doesn't show on darker dogs.

Halas' fur also seems a little oily there.
