I looked to see if i could find a discussion on this but I didn't. If there is one feel free to direct me to it! Anyway, the other day I took my puppy to the vet and her ears I guess were really dirty, so they cleaned them. 2 days later they looked dirty again so I used my Chris Christensen Mystic Ear cleaner (and did it the way the directions told me to) Recently I noticed when I rub her ears she yelps so I looked in and they are all red! I think the cleaner irritated her ears! Maybe it was the alcohol in it?? Has anyone ever had this problem? And if so what did you do?

Hey Amanda ~ Thornit ear powder does wonders. It has ingredients that were commonly used for wound packing (and in some instances still are) that cover the entire range fungal, bacterial and viral infections. Some of our dogs do seem to be yeast sensitive and I know many do not support the food/ear connection, BUT I can tell you that when other conditions are right, we have several that display yeast symptoms (not allergy) most often seen in chewing the paws and digging at the ears (with an endless supply of brown gunk). When we encounter this we us a grain free food that uses sweet potato as its primary carb which converts to sugar slower hence providing less food for yeast and aiding in starving it out. Additionally the very best tip I have ever received and in turn share was to use stridex alcohol free medicated pads for ear cleaning. During times of trouble we do this daily ~ Thank you Kate for that one it is the total bomb! Let us know how it goes Amanda, good luck!
Thanks Diane! So do you think I should ditch the Mystic Ear stuff then?
Does the stridex alcohol free medicated pads get rid of the black gunk?
I've never used the Mystic Ear product but looking on the CC website I get the impression it is for cleaning healthy ears. It's possible that there is an underlying infection that needs antifungal or antibacterial medication. I'd have them looked at again.
I didn't even think about that. I called the vet but she just said clean her ears with warm water. I feel that if she has an infection that this will not help it...
I think there were discussion about ears on Health group.
