My girls are wonderful and healthy, but every once in a while they go through a day or two where they will not eat and seem lethargic. It happened again this weekend, but this morning they ate well and were back to their same old selves. My Shirley can't stay away from eating some grass when we are outside. Could this make her sick to the stomach? Now, Laverne is copying Shirley and doing the same. Should I keep them away from the grass? Anyone have any ideas or comments?

Thanks,

Yankee still eats grass sometimes. I usually see it when I clean up after him (if you know what I mean). It can make them throw up but if there are no chemicals on the grass, I wouldn't worry too much.

Yankee also has days where he doesn't eat and I don't worry to much. When he's hungry, he eats. If it went on for any longer than a day or two, I would worry and go to the vet. If they are back to normal, what's the problem?
Thanks for you reply. You are correct, if they are back to normal, what's the problem. No problem now. I will not worry so much in the future.
Jackdoodle also has his picky days when he isn't interested in food, and other times when he cleans his bowl at every meal. That in itself isn't unusual. The grass eating isn't unusual either unless it is huge quantities that are clearly making them sick.
The lethargy is more something to be concerned about, but if it happens regularly, and they are fine the next day, I wouldn't worry. I think some dogs may be more sensitive to weather conditions, barometric pressure, that kind of thing. I agree with Linda, if they are lethargic & don't eat for a couple of days in a row, I would see the vet. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry.
Thanks for your reply. I definitely don's want to sound like some paranoid dog owner, but you have made me feel so much better.
Hi Shirley, my Mojo had the same habit...I was concerned about him not interested in his foot, considering we walk in the morning and at dusk, labeling him as an active dog. I thought his was bored with his dry food..so I started putting just a table spoon of the same brand of food...but the can... on top of his dry, and stirred it up. Mojo has eaten ever since. As far as the grass...Mojo is also a grass eater..but only the very new, fresh grass. I was always told that dogs have that habit to settle their stomach. I do make sure Mojo has his quiet time before and after he eats to hinder him from the bloat problems on big girth dogs. I have no answer to your problem, but wanted to let you know you are not alone. Hope you find a solution to our doodle problems..take care, Diane
Thank you so much for your kind reply. I also walk my Laverne and Shirley in the early morning and evening.
I did not know about the bloat problems with big girth dogs. (Laverne is a big girl too) As I walk them around 4:45 AM, I usually wait until around 1 hour after that to feed them. Our grass is not treated where the dogs are fenced in, so I will not worry about the grass eating. My pups are rescue girls as their previous owner died.I just feel so fortunate to be able to raise them. They put a smile on my face from morning to night. Have a great week. I feel better now having discussed this problem with you.

It's always good to ask others to see if their behavior is normal. Glad you feel better.
Ali does the same thing. I used to worry about it but my friend has a doodle that does the same thing. Every once in awhile she doesn't want to eat and prefers to spend the day lounging on the sofa or in her crate! A day or two later, she's fine, eating everything in sight and ready to go! As to eating grass, she won't eat the fresh grass, she'll eat the clumps left behind by the lawn mower! I try to pick them up but she always finds some I missed. It never makes her sick.
Thanks Jonnie;

It sure is reassuring to know that others are experiencing the same habits with their own dogs. It is great that you took the time to reply to my quandy. Doodles are the best!!!
