Motta and Miley are 10 weeks old. We got Motta on May 15th and just picked up Miley yesterday June 7th. Motta was sleeping with us in bed and coming to work with me with no problems. Now Miley isn't use to sleeping in the bed as we found out. I have an xxlarge crate. Can I put them both in it at night? I plan on getting another eventually.
What's your suggestion? They are not fully potty trained although Motta is mostly but Miley needs some working with since we just got her.
Why can't Miley sleep in the crate and Motta continue on your bed until you feel Miley is ready to be out of the crate at night. We have three dogs and crated Ned at night for the first year. The other two sleep wherever usually the Springer on the bed. Ned now sleeps on the bed or floor and so do the others. Not a problem to have them do other things.
I agree with Nacey and Ned, Marley is our 6 yr old LD and Mojo (LD) is now 14 weeks. Marley sleep where he normally would ( his crate with the door open) and we put Mojo in his own crate with the door locked. IF we only had one crate then Mojo would be in the crate and Marley in the bed. Eventually we know we will let Mojo sleep in his open crate or in a bed.
It is also important to seperate the dogs becuase at some point you have to take only one to the vet or on a trip etc. you will not want seperation issues at that time. DUring the day if they both want to climb in the crate togather there should not be any issues.
We have put both in the crate (collars off) at night and they are doing great. They sleep 6-7 hours straight now. When they get a little bigger we will separate them into their own crates. I will also bring one to work and leave the other at home.
They will take turns and some days I will bring both too. My thinking is to bring only one so I can bond with them individually and also they will learn to be alone sometimes. I do bring them both to work now.
