The scary question...are GD's better behaved?

I have a goldendoodle and may, someday in the future, get a labradoodle so I am posing the dangerous question...

Are Goldendoodles better behaved than Labradoodles?

Sorry, but my observation on this board....I have read posts of toy destroyers (LD's), pups that cry all night (LD's), barkers (LD's) etc...

My GD is pretty much an easy angel - like the golden child, hehe.

Now before you LD owners want to pinch the heck out of me please take heart that I intend the question in the most loving way possible.

I have a GD as does my sister - and both are wonderful dogs and true members of our families - but alas - they both destroy toys! Not barkers or cryers - but definitely toy eaters and jumpers. If I were to get a second (over my husband's absolute refusal) I would probably opt for an LD - just to have one of each! They both seem to be incredible breeds - I personally think you can't go wrong with either.

Thanks. I really was hoping to hear just that. I wanted to hear that LD's arent all brats and GD's arent all angels. I can then take all these posts and hand them to DH when I start in with the I want another pup (not for a while yet though - the poor man can only take so much in one year LOL) ...walk softly, tread lightly, come prepared. LOL

My girl is a LD and has never been a terror, i think it is in the breeding and the training. the only fun we have had is the pot plants when she was about 8mths old but oh she looked so cute with a black face from the potting mix!!!!! I think like children they are all unique!

I missed part of my response - training, training, training - consistency, consistency, consistency.
Puppy Kindergarten, socialization (I do not mean dog parks) to trains, buses, schools crossings, cars, Home Depot, all kinds of different places. THAT is what makes any dog a fantastic partner.

I really think there is virtually no difference -- I've met out of control goldens and labs and well behaved GD's and LD's. Some get lucky with mellow, non-chewers. There is one couple in town with two goldendoodles who "might" be soon rehoming one because the two of them are so naughty together (read untrained dogs without enough exercise and attention). It's really a toss-up. But I don't consider toy destruction 'misbehaving' either.

I often wonder what the differences between the different doodle types might be. I think your question is a great one and it would be great to get some kind of poll going - like a questionairre where results could be posted on a chart. I would devise one but I don't actually know what would be good to ask and how to scientifically phrase the questions to be without bias. Are goldendoodles typically calmer dogs? Are labradoodles typically more curious? Does one hybrid mature (i.e. calm down) at a younger age than the other? Shedding factors, matting - differences? It wouldn't make one hybrid superior, but might be a tool to help those looking for a doodle make a decision.
