My puppy is 14 weeks old now. What is the recommended feeding schedule and amount? Right now we just keep food in his bowl and he eats when he is hungry. We are now trying to housetrain him so need to start getting him on more of a regular feeding schedule.

We feed twice daily. 1 Cup each time. For puppies, many recommend 3 times daily. Gunner is a great eater, many doodles free feed, we like the set times better. It helped when potty training as well. Goodluck!
I fed Charlie 3x a day when she was younger. She was not a big eater, so I hand fed her and used as an opportunity to teacher her "sit" "down", etc... and also to build relationships with her. I think she ate 1/2c or so each feeding. Now she is 6 months, she eats twice a day. A little over a cup each time. I still hand feed her.
Ollie is ten weeks old. We give him 1/2 cup food twice a day. That is what the vet reccomended. I have never seen a puppy eat as ravenously - he gulps it down in five seconds and always wants more. At the vet yesterday they gave him these pill treats and he ate them - vet tech said it was the first dog who ate them willingly!
Hes hungrey and growing, he should be on 3 meals a day and give him as much as he will eat....Read the back of the TOTW bag, but when in a rapid growth sput they will be ravenous....You can use the Salmon TOTW with a lover protein content to prevent too temper rapid growth.....

FEED him! :)

I think if you check around a 10 week old pup should be fed 3 times a day? Maybe that is why he is so hungry? Check the bag of the food you are feeding. If it only has an adult feeding schedule just know that a puppy needs more calories than an adult dog.
I agree with Sally. Check the bag of food for quantity to feed. Max is 11 mths old and I still feed him 3x day plus he gets kong and training treats. He also gulped his food when he was younger and I was concerned he wasn't getting enough food but some puppies are like that. He has changed and sometimes won't touch his food right away so i just leave it. He's really good at letting me know when he has to potty so I'm not concerned with accidents.
What ever happened to "Feed on Demand". I am no expert, so I don't know. My experience was working in a hospital nursery with humans and raising two hungry boys, and the standard was feed now, feed small amounts often.

Everyone has their own style of feeding, but IMO, puppies need to eat more frequently. As with my pup, he was not a big eater. I left out small amounts, available at all times, and would refill as soon as he decided to eat.
How much depends on your puppy's weight and age -- the bag of food usually gives a general guidelines and you adjust depending on puppy. If he's too chunky...feed a bit less. If he is too thin and seems to want more...give a wee bit extra. Each bag of food is different in how many calories, etc it has so what I gave my pups on one food is not the same amount everyone should give from their different food.

If free feeding works for you...then great! If you decide to go to set feeding times then pick the times convenient to you. I fed Rosco 3 times per day till he was 4 months old: before work, at noon, and around 4 or 5pm. After that it was 2 meals a day for a long time. Most people who feed set meals, feed 2 meals a day for older pups and adult dogs.
Hi there, I have a 11 week old golden doodle, he eats a cup and 3/4 2 x a day. And he gobbles that down...I was feeding him a cup 2 x a day, and the vet told me to increase it to 1 1/2- to 1 3/4. He says puppies need the calories, they burn them very quivkly, and I must admit, he is not as crazed sand ravenous when he sees food and seems contented when he finishes eating...We have been housebreaking, and he is doing great, I think by knowing the feeding schedule, it is easier to train them to go outside...I can almost time his going after eating...I do leave water out for him, all day, but take it away around 7 pm as to cut down on his urinating during the night. It is working, this am he was completely dry, he went from midnight to 6:15 am, and then we heard him and got him out and he peed and pooped...Horray, maybe he is getting the idea? Now if I could stop the mouthing on us and mu other dog, we would have it made, lol...We have a trainor, so he is learning and quickly...Just love this little guy, and wow is he ever growing. I would say we got him at 8 weeks, and now he is 11 weeks, and he has doubled his size, lol, just wish I knew what his real coat was going to be....
How much also depends upon expected adult weight.
How does this work? The food bags don't ever list a column for expected adult weight when it gives feeding recommendations...can you explain what you mean?
Maddy was just at the vet last week for her 16 week checkup. We were feeding her 1 cup of food 3x a day. The vet said we could go to 2x a day..just divide the amount..so now she get 1 1/2 cups 2x a day. She seems very content with that. In the afternoon I usually give her a carrot and she will have a small amount of treats during the day. We are feeding Chicken Soup for the puppy...large breed puppy. She definitely seems less hungry than when I was feeding her Nutro (we just switched).
