Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I have a 16wk old f2 chocolate goldendoodle named Webster. I only saw one other GD listed on the group - are there other chocolate gds? I'd be curious to know any info on other choc gds.
I'll start: Webster's mom is a 55lb blond f1 gd out of a cafe-au-lait standard poodle sire & golden retriever mom. Webster's dad is a 75 lb black f1 gd out of a black standard poodle sire & golden ret mom. Webster was the only chocolate in a litter of 10, 5 blacks & 4 blonds.
I don't know how to describe Webster's hair - it's not curly but not straight. It reminds me of some of the perms I've had - lots of body and a little frizz. Very little to no shedding so far (crossing my fingers!).

Thanks for the info - I have noticed that many chocolates are minis.
I have a 6 month old f1b goldendoodle. She is currently 26lbs. Her name is Abby. Abby's mom is cafe goldendoodle, her dad a chocolate poodle. She will probably grow up to be about 40 - 45 lbs.
I've seen Abby's pictures - she is a doll!
I think that most chocolate goldendoodles are F1b goldendoodles. You can get more color variations when you breed back to a lighter colored poodle. I also think that Webster is out of the ordinary, evidenced by the fact that he is the only chocolate puppy out of a litter of ten. Blacks and blonds are definitely more common. So enjoy him - he is a rare pup.
The interesting thing is that Webster's dad came from a litter of 15 with 1 chocolate puppy. I had first pick and everyone knew I was hoping for a chocolate. When he was born everyone said "here comes Jennifer's puppy" :-)
My chocolate AL Archie arrived at 8 weeks 8.5lbs. His coat was wavy and sold cholocate. He is now 13 months and a latte color, 50 lbs with a curly latte coat, chocolate wavy ears and a silver + latte, tail. Go figure. He does not shed but the undercoat mats so quickly I just ordered the Le Pooch brush. Audrey in Studio City
Webster has latte highlights around his face. I trimmed his legs & feet and now they look more latte and less chocolate. I hope he doesn't lose all his chocolate :-)
Jennifer, you could call Webster's hair wavy. The Australian labradoodle hair is referred to as curly or wavy.
Your puppy may only start and finish shedding when he receives his permanent hair.
Thanks - wavy sounds good to me. I've seen the terms curly, shaggy, & straight used for goldendoodles but wavy seems to fit his hair type better (his hair is still so soft and silky it's hard to think of it as shaggy). I trimmed his feet and legs as he was bringing in a bunch of dirt - I'm considering giving him an all-over trim to even him out......but I'm scared! He's so cute even if he is a big mess!

I trimmed my LD down short (which is not recommended) when he scared other joggers on the trail. I like it but my husband does not. I'll attach a few photos of our dogs with their summer cuts. You can afford to play around with his grooming - he's just a young pup and there are really no standards for doodle cuts. Do what you like and then see if you want to do it again.
I agree with you, I like his new summer cut. Is your goldendoodle a phantom? He is awesome looking! I took the clippers to Webster and just gave him a little trim. I think he looks great and I'm happy that he is still a chocolate :-)
