Every time I set down Ellie's food bowl she sniffs it and then backs off and barks. I wondered if it had to do with the dish or the food?... She does this every time I put out just her kibble (TOTW). If I mix the kibble with something else she eats it.
Yankee was exactly like that. I changed his food 4 or 5 times and then gave up. He was just being fussy. He still doesn't eat like most dogs, his food can sit there for hours before he touches it. I wouldn't worry too much.
Mine like to have yogurt or cottage cheese over their food. Sometimes I do...sometimes I don't. And it's very good for them, and better than canned food. Cottage cheese with calcium is also great for growing pups with their bones, or rescues who have not had the healthy starts. I don't overdue it either, cause to much is not a good thing. Does anyone give their dogs milk...mine love the cereal milk leftovers..lol.
She wants something added - I agree she has you well trained :) Don't ever add anything and she will eat it. She would do that with any food I am willing to bet. Went through that with Taquito before...
What's with Doodles? I have to laugh every time I see someone with this exact question.
When Spud was little I sat on the floor with kibble in my hand. " Grow Big Puppy. Come on take a bite"
So many say they fed their doodles by hand. Heck, I would have stood on my head if I thought it would help.
I was used to Labs who cleaned off the counters before you could even serve dinner. Steal a large pizza, a loaf of bread and still sit under the dinner table and beg for more.
Silly Doodles. These dogs are truly unique.
Boy, this sounds so familiar. Sammy, my golden doodle, started this at about age 1. After many attempts with several techniques I discovered that Sam preferred his food in a stainless bowl over any other type. And, it must be cleaned of any old food, which we did any way.
If in any other type of bowl, Sammy just sniffs and walks away. He'll refuse to each for days if not in a stainless bowl.
Wow, Gus and Molly eat every meal like they haven't seen food in a month! But my daughter was the pickiest eater in the world when she was little, so maybe the food gods are giving me a break!
