Has anyone seen a difference between doodles who look more like poodles and those that look like labs? I have two multigeneration labradoodles. My older dog does not dribble water, eats his food over time and prances a bit more like a poodle while the puppy eats as if she's never been fed before and may never be again, dribbles all over and seems more lab-like.
LOL! That is funny and cute! Good question too! I only ever have had this one doodle girl so I cant say. She is a dainty eater - then she pukes! What can I say! LOL What a cute face looking right at the camera!!
I don't have enough experience either, I just got my 2nd doodle. All I can tell you is my first gen GD was a calm gentle guy from the start. he trained easily, listens fairly well. I now have an 8 week old F1B puppy who is like the tazmanian devil. He is more poodle and wow, what a handful. I have some rough days ahead of me.
Too cute!!! My lab mix dog is the neatest dog I have ever seen. He doesn't even get dirty walking through mud! He eats and drinks neatly always. My daughter's lab is a big goof and like my Springer, and my doodle drools water. He does shed water and dirt off of him though, while my doodle holds every leaf, stick, dirt speck, and a bucket full of water in his fur!
You can see that behaviour in our F1's, one is so poodle and one is so lab in personality. I am glad to hear some of the lab made it to the multigens, with all the poodle (other) infusions I would miss the lab personality if it wasnt there.
Guinness , F1 Labradoodle, chocolate and silver, looks like a hippy lab, went through his puppy daze like a lab and has settled into adulthood as a gentle giant, with a friendly wag to everyone he meets. he is no longer the people jumper, doggy chaser he once was.
Peyton, Multigen LD ,chocolate parti color, looks like a long legged lab on poodlelegs, was a lab chomping puppy but has settled into adulthood like a little lady (although she can howl like the best hunting dog) and eagerly joins in doggy romps but is also content laying around for scratches.
Finnigan, multigen Goldendoodle, reddish apricot, looks like a Disney Dog, loves to play with his stuffed toys, romps through the yard with pure glee and does the golden lay on your back happy roll.
Abby D'Labby, chocolate ALL lab, is the daintiest of all, always minds her manners and leaves the scene if there is too much dog action for her taste.
I think doodles are like people...all colors, kinds and personalities, and you learn to love each one for whatever they bring into our lives.
LOL. That's too funny. It reminds me of last weekend, Allie had a playdate with her Chocolate Lab cousin Molly - I couldn't get over how much of a water slurper Molly was - there was water ALL over the kitchen floor. Allie reminds me of a cat compared to Molly the beast.
I don't know how Peri's looks will turn out, but for now (13 weeks), she is prancing like a poode, splashing the water around like a poodle, just has more poodle characteristics I think! Isn't that funny how they can take on the qualities of one more than the other? Your doods are beautiful by the way!
my labby doodle (F1) is probably slightly more poodle like in behavior.
my poodly doodle (F1) is very much labby in his personality.
But I doubt that there is any correlation...just how the genes happened to line up =)
My Australian labradoodle (so F1B) is pretty mellow, follows me around as if we were tethered, loves water and loves to meet people and other dogs. I'm not sure what that makes him, more poodle or more lab. Oh, and he is very food motivated--I think that is the lab side.
His body is very labby. His legs are not as tall as his torso is long and he was the shortest and heaviest dog in his litter--outweighed mom and dad by six months.
When he drinks water, he will often lie down on the floor, put a paw or two in the bowl, and drip everywhere. My husband says that the standard poodle he grew up with also lay down to eat and drink.
As for playing, Porter does the fetch thing, but his favorite type of play so far is to get the ball or stick and be chased by a human or another dog. He also uses his mouth to toss small things and then go after them. Poodle or lab? Not sure :-)
