Ok, Guys I need some help from all you doodle owners!!

Hi everyone, our GD Oliver Ollie to his friends, lol, is now a little over 3 mos old...he looks like a lanky teenager, he is all legs at this point with big paws, and fur that goes in all directions...Not sure what his adult coat will look like, but he is something else, lol....He is as sweet as can be, BUT, and it is a big BUT. He will not tell me when he has to go out...I watch him like a hawk, and I can tell when he needs to go out, but he doesn't bark, or cry, or anything. He will also just squat and pee if I miss the signs. If I say Ollie do u have to go out and pee or poop, he runs for the door, and out he goes. Is there something I can do to get him to tell me he has to go?...I have tried with the bells on the door, he loves them, he goes and plays with them, but doesn't know they are for telling me he has to go, he just likes to play with them. He is crated at night, and when I have to go out during the day. I walk him for the last time around 11P.M. and sometimes he will make it to 5:30 am, or maybe 6 am, but he has no qualms about peeing in the crate. He does not get any water after dinner which is around 5:30 pm. I do give him an ice cube or maybe 2 somtimes during the evening. Maybe I am just rushing the process, but I know he knows he did something wrong when he makes in the house, he runs when he sees that I have found it. I of course yell a great big no, but it is too late, I didn't see him do it, if I do see him, I yell no and grab him and take him out, where he then makes, and I praise him to the hilt, and give him a treat, with "good biy" being said continually...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Otherwise he is just a delight, of course the usual puppy stuff, chewing, but stops when I say NO chewing...We just love him so much, and he has made terrific change in our 11 yr old aussie, they get along great, of course Ollie wants to play with him all the time, and the older one lets Ollie do whatever he wants to him...Up to a point, and then he shows him who is boss, lol, but they are wonderful together, and Ollie has given Renny a new lease on life....Cheryl

I have the same problem, except Fozzy Bear is 8 months old. I tried the poochie bells, I tried a bell like they have on customer service desks, you name it. Fozzy had accidents until he was about 5 months old.
Now, I just have him on a regular schedule and that is usually good enough. But if my boys are watching him and get lazy, he will have accidents. The only way we know is if he goes into the basement. He pees right in front of the patio door. If you find a way to get him to tell you, let me know.

LOL. This is the same way with me.
I constantly ask my kids - all teenagers - when was the last time dogs been out, and they always say they JUST took them out!!! Charlie - now 7 months old - had few accident right after she got spayed, and on some really hot days, I think because she was drinking much more. She still does not tell me when she have to go, but by us keeping her on the schedule, she is doing fine. I plan to get a poochie bell and see if she will learn to ring it or not. Since she is doing much better with leash walking, this will be the new goal for us.

Hi Cheryl, My puppy wouldn't ring the bells and I couldn't understand why she didn't do it. I put her paws on the bells each time she went out, treated her, etc. I read somewhere that it has to be their NOSE against the bells. Lo and behold, as soon as I started touching the bells to her nose before she went out, she got it immediately and started ringing the bells. I gave her a treat as soon as I put her nose against the bells, another one when we went outside and another one immediately after she peed or pooped.

Nina, I am going to try using her nose on the bells....And thank you to everyone for all the help and ideas to help with Ollie....Now here is the funny part, the last two mornings he has been dry in his crate, and today I had to go to the office for over 2 hrs. I walked him just before I left, just to be sure, even though he had been out a hundred times before this in the am, lol....He peed for the umpteenth time, I put him in his crate, gave him a treat and praised him and lo and behold, when I got back this afternoon, the crate was dry. I immediately took him out, and he peed and pooped !!!!...So I am seeing that maybe he is beginning to get the idea, lol....I really have to put new pictures of him on the site for u guys to see, I just have to remember how to do it again, lol...I am so computer illiterate it is scary....He is all legs and big paws, lol, and his face is just too cute, lol...Of course I am his Mom, lol, so I think he is the cutest little guy, lol....

Harry is 4 months now and we have been trying to train him for a few weeks now. We have our good and bad days. He is starting to get the "bells" if we say "outside" he runs up and rings the bells but he is not yet doing it on his own unless we say "outside". We are trying to stick to a schedule, some days we have no accidents and others he will pee on the floor right in front of us! Hoping with time he will fully grasp it and only go outside.

We had a step back. Hershey pooped and tinkled in this kennel during the night, walked through it and laid in it and created what my husband calls "pinkle". And he had been out after midnight and did both!

So you just never know. He will be trained, when he's trained. ;-D
