I want to get clippers for my doodle so I can groom him myself at times rather than taking him to a groomer every month. With so many out there I don't know what to get. Does anyone know which ones are better.I know they are expensive.
Also, what is the difference between Les Poochs brush and the furminator dog brush and deshedding tool? I am not sure what to get. Riley has alot of undercoat and I have been usiing a wide metal comb on him.
I would go with an Andis clipper, one speed. and get a metal (not plastic) comb attachment along with whatever length blade you prefer for your desired doodle look. (I like a 3 3/4 length blade, no shorter)
as for Brushes, I plan on getting a les poochs brush very soon, but have not used one yet.
I also am going to purchase a 35 mm pin brush by Chris Christensen, which I think will be amazing for getting through Bruce's now 4 1/2 inch coat.
I personally wouldn't use a Furminator brush on a long coated poodle mix. but thats just me.
You should check out the grooming section of DK, there are several great articles about furminator dog brushes and deshedding tools. As for Les Poochs brushes you can talk with Kemp Raider through DK or his Doodle Country Store, www.doodlecountry.com As for clippers I like Oster's. The power with the clipper is great and I feel I am spending less time clipping them with using the Oster. I also purchased an Andis and I do not like it at all, the combs actually broke while trying to trim Hannah because she has a thicker, curly coat.
Furminator is for straight haired dogs that shed...NOT to be used on curly coated dogs. Les Poochs is for curly coated dogs and dogs that matt.
I use the Andis ACG 2 speed Pro clippers but you might want to peruse our Grooming Group for recommendations...they have a ton of discussions on grooming tools. Or just go to the top of the page and click on "Forum" and in the search box type in 'clippers' or "furminator" or "Les Poochs" and you'll find past discussions with lots of info. Both my dogs shed so I don't use the Les Poochs, but do LOVE the Chris Christensen T pin brush: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum2/topics/chris-christensen-t-pin-b...
