We have had our Curly Fleece labradoodle for 2 days now and ive noticed if im wearing a white shirt and cuddle him when i put him down i have a few brown hairs on me. Would this be considered shedding, or just normal hair loss from a non shedding dood.
His fur is very soft. I have attached a photo for you to see what he looks like. Im just curious if this is a normal thing for doodles to do.
Doesnt look like a classic shedder but you cant always tell by looking. Doesnt sound like a "shedder". Run a comb through him for a full body brush. Does it fill up? or is there only a few hairs? Thats how I tell. One of ours fills brush after brush with hair, enough to fill a grocery bag in one full body brush out, the other wouldn't fill one brush in a years worth of grooming.
My Lilly is 14months old and when I brush her whole body I only get one small handfull of hair. But, when she is on the sofa or next to my dark pants I think the hair jumps off her. LOL I think of her as a lite shedder. You might have to wait until he is older and he goes through his coat changes to know for sure.
Hannah will drop a curl now and than maybe one every two to three months..lol, Honey you get a few strands off of her when you brush, I do not consider them sheeders. I do not have the mounds of hair a Golden Retriever can produce, or when you brush them. My one sister has a Retriever, you could fill a pillow with his hair everyday. Honey is 1year old and Hannah will be 2 years so I think they are safe from the sheeding end. I would wait to see how your doodle is when he reaches his adult coat.
Gunner sheds enough to fill a bag every day. A few hairs I wouldn't consider a shedder, however coats change so you may have to wait for a while. Gunner's coat really didn't change, most doodles do.
Again, I am not an expert, but here is my thoughts on the subject----------
I was stupid when I was researching for a doodle puppy. DK was not in existance at that time :>( or I would of known better. My DH is not a dog lover and I have had many many dogs in our 44 yrs. of marrage, all shedders. SO, this time, to keep peace, I was looking for a non shedder. I found Lucy, an F1 goldendoodle, and was under the impression she would not shed. She didn't up until 11 months, then, look out............ she was blowing her puppy coat and getting her big girl coat. That lasted for about 3 months and since then she has been a lite shedder. I read somewhere that if you wet your hand and rub it down their back you will see how much hair you get on your hand and that is about how much of a shedder they are. I still do not think that Lucy sheds very much, my DH thinks otherwise. I have learned alot since I got her and if you want a doodle that is non shedding or minimal shedding than you should get an F1B with 3/4 poodle in them, then I still think that is not 100% proof either. There is no guarentee that they will be a non shedder. I feel your puppy is too young to really know yet. It doesn't look like a shedder to me either, but who knows for sure.
LOL...no dog was de-tailed for this photo. This was actually taken a week after his bath with no brushing prior ...so he had a bunch of dead hair built up. But still....THAT is not a non-shedder or a 'light-shedder' either. He's a full on shedder that covers my black pants with evidence that I'm a dog owner.
