Suggestions needed please! Puppy chewing tag.

Maddy is almost 5 months old and has been wearing her new collar and tags for less than a week. She wears a stainless steel name tag with our cell phone numbers and a plastic Avid tag with her microchip ID number and Avid's phone number to call in case she is lost. Sometimes she chews on her tags and the plastic one is getting pretty chewed up! It's almost to the point that it'd be illegible to someone who did not already know what it's supposed to say. I've checked Avid's website to see if they sell a metal version of the tag that you can purchase but can't find anything...I will write them an e-mail shortly. But I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for what I can do to insure she has that Avid information around her neck? Thanks!

I would try getting that info on a Boomerang tag...it lays flat against the collar: http://www.boomerangtags.com/

But I think there are also collar protectors out there OR buy a collar that can be embroidered with your number or avid's number.

Blaze did the same thing to his Avid tag. They do have metal tags, even though they don't show them on their website. I got one for Blaze. If you e-mail them, they will send you an order form.

You can also go to some pet stores and they have machines that ingrave the info right on them, cost between $6.00 and $10.00., and you have it in metal....just put the information on it you need.

I would paint the product they use for stopping people bite their nails onto the tags, see if that works.

How do you dogs get to their tags. My dogs tags are on a very small ring and I don't think they could reach the tags--at least they haven't.

This happened when he was about 5 months old. I took his collar off and put it on top of his crate ( I was putting him in the crate at the time) When I let him out, I didn't put his collar back on and he got a hold of it when I wasn't looking and chewed up the plastic tag.

Go to boomerangtags.com and your will see options that fit right on the collar and don't hang. All three of my doods wear these tags. Your name, address, telephone number etc don't wear off.

Are you sure the collar isn't too loose? You should be able to slip a few fingers in between the collar and her neck, but not more than that. :)

My dood chews his tag too, and he's 28 lbs (13 wks). It's like you said, he just twists his head around and grabs it! I'm hoping he just grows out of it.

I got the Home Again metal tags for Molly and Abby. They couldn't reach their own tags but Molly liked to chew Abby's tag.

I also use the Boomerang ID tags...
