Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our 16 month old cream doodle loves, loves, loves to swim, but unfortunately, even though we rinse and/or shampoo him every time he is done, I am noticing that he, ever so slightly, is starting to take on a green tint -especially on his paws!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep this from happening? Or do you know of any shampoos, or home remedies, that are gentle, which may help with this?

That's like a person with blonde hair that turns green with too much swimming!! Sorry Liza, I have no remedy. Just wanted to comment. I wonder tho, if human shampoo that is used for that could be used sparingly or diluted.
I have mixed baking soda with Mickey's shampoo and let it soak for a few minutes. It helps a bit, but his summer coat usually has a green tinge to it....
Chlorine is what turns the fur green. I am pretty sure u can use human shampoo and conditioner on dogs just have to make sure u rinse it out good. Anyway their is lots of human shampoo and or conditioner that will say stuff like helps get rid of chlorine or helps remove chlorine I think that would help a little to get rid of the green tint.
I am a newbie; but I'd like to tell you that I found a whitening shampoo at Petco. Maybe that would help? If not, before the dog goes swimming, rinse him in cold water first. It's an old hair dresser trick I picked up in school.. Hope it works!
