My daughter said she saw on Animal Planet AND in one of her many dog books, that putting clothes on dogs humiliates them, I have never done it, and don't know the truth, you weigh in!
I don't really know. I think a bandana suffices for bigger dogs. BUT I do put sweaters on my 6.5 pound chihuahua. I would be shocked if it humiliates him! It keeps him warm during the winter!
The dogs always do look humiliated to me, especially the big ones. I don't know if dogs are really capable of feeling humiliated, though.
I think there are some dogs who don't mind- my miniature poodle loved any kind of attention, and truly didn't seem to mind when my daughter "dressed her up." She would never try to get the garments off. Jackdoodle, on the other hand, really dislikes having any kind of clothing on him, even just a "jester collar" around his neck for Halloween.
Yep your mini poodle....like my chihuahua, they don't care as much! Peri would look like an idiot in clothes in my opinion! Plus she would bite them off. It took her 2 months to get used to her collar :)
Hannah could care less if you dress her up or not..she loves to sport her harley hat...
But I have heard the same...about dressing up your dogs...not to..other than the typical doggy sweater...dogs do not need clothes cause they sport their own fur coats.
Funny you should ask....we were going to try on Halloween costumes today (Beemer ran like his tail was on fire)...Comiskey sat down in front of me and raised her paw for the first sleeve and then raised her other paw for the other sleeve...it was so cute...then she proceeded to pose for the camera! So to answer the question....I think she likes the attention!
Got the costumes at Target...last year...but they also have them this year....Comiskey was the bumble bee last year...so this year she will be the lady bug....we are trying to get Beemer to wear the bumble bee, but eveytime we put the headpiece on he acts like he can't lift his head!.....guess he needs more practice....
In the winter I have a hard time getting my beagles out of their sweaters to wash them (the sweaters, not beagles). They shiver and sulk until the laundry is done and they are back in their sweaters. To date, I have tried only hats on Harlow, but I am seriously considering a ‘wonder woman’ costume for Halloween. In our neighborhood it is traditional on Halloween the kids get candy and the parents get cocktails. Now we have a fur-kid to take door-to-door. =)
