This week I stocked up on bully sticks and beef tendons (so gross for a quasi vegetarian) for our puppy Leo. The other side of this problem is we have two other dogs, so that means they ALL get chews. The chews are mandatory for Leo...he is trying to chew everything in sight - the front door, the fireplace hearth....and perhaps the most distressing of all, the ramp that I built for our Pekingnese to get up on the couch! Managing chews among the three dogs is challenging enough, since they have quickly formed a pack and are inseparable. Oddly, the nearly toothless Peke manages to eat through them much more quickly than the other two. But once we're past all the thieving behaviors...is there a recommendation as to how much/how many of these things should be consumed in a week's time? We have the high quality sticks - the ingredients say "beef pizzle" and that's it...no by-products. I'm hoping because these are fairly slow going at this point it's okay to just sort of keep them going and available? As an aside, Leo is SO funny when he is chewing on his beef tendon...he makes these appreciative moans - VERY loud! He sounds like someone who is famished and eating some really fabulous dish and just can't get over how good it is...and he just keeps going on and on and on about it!
We use these...we only give them to Peri and Taquito when we want them to be totally focused for a while (like while we eat dinner, etc...). Probably 20 minutes a day max and it takes them a week to go through one each.

Thanks. That's about how long they are getting them, with Leo moaning in pleasure the whole time. Then our Shih Tzu spends the rest of the evening looking for his chewie!
I just had a follow up question to this? Is there a time period to keep the same Bully Stick and / or Flossy??? Can doggie chew on the same one for several weeks or is it limited due to any bacteria issues? Thanks!

It wouldn't last several weeks at our house! But I see your point. My concern was figuring out how to clean the peanut butter out of the Kong!
How big are the sticks? Brewster can eat a whole one - about 6 inches long or so and pretty thin- in less than 20 minutes! I guess I could try giving him the bigger $20 sticks, but that's a little pricy for me, even if it lasts a few days.
I worry about the quantity of biscuit-type treats. Between training and kennel-bribes, he gets a lot! LOL He's still thin, at this rate, though, so I guess he's not getting too many....
Looking forward to everyone's reply to this problem I'm sure all puppy owners go through! :)
