I noticed Debbie Chisolms little guy looks like he started out apricot and is now a white dog. My lovely apricot Kaela (who is almost orange she is so apricot) has all white white fur underneath, like if I were to shave her short she would be snow white. I believe she will, infact, grow up to be a white or cream dog.
Ned was and is apricot. He is a bit different from puppy color, and his ears aren't as red. His eyelashes are quite red. I love his color and hope he doesn't fade but, if he does - he will still be Notorious Ned!
This is due to the silvering or fading gene passed along by one of the parents...Much like black dogs turing silver, chocolates turing cafe, lavendar or parchement or reds becomming apricot....etc......
Very common some more eveident sooner than others, espcially in the face and legs...;)
The breeder told me she would lighten up but I didn't really believe him; she was soooo orange. But yes, she's very light now with apricot tips when her hair gets longer. The ends of her ears and around her muzzle are still apricot, but not even close to the orange she was originally. (That's why we named her Mango). Of course she's just as sweet and adorable! Right now she's getting some random dark apricot hairs throughout her coat but they are a little different. Straighter and throughout her back but not enough to make her apricot again.
then and now 1 year later
