I posted on the forum yesterday that Chewie seems to be having problems chewing (LOL) hard things...takes him forever to chew a natural (dehydrated) sweet potato chew. If it's something smaller, he seems to shift it around in his mouth quite a bit before managing to finish it. This problem is just lately. I looked in his mouth and (in the back) see several loose baby teeth and other teeth that appear to be much larger, but aren't fully emerged in the gums.

Have anyone noticed their puppies around this age (just about 5 months) going through this transitional stage between puppy and permanent teeth? I imagine it would be a challenge to chew hard things when some of your teeth are loose and others lack an adequate chewing surface.

Peri went through this. But within just a few days, I looked at her and she flashed a huge grin with adult teeth. It seemed like it happened over night. I wouldn't worry unless this lasts a long time.
Just today I noticed that Murphy wasn't interested in his food as much and wasn't chewing the usual toys, etc so I looked in his mouth and sure enough, he lost 2 baby teeth today!! He doesn't seem to be bothered by it much. Of course, my kids want to know (a) where are the teeth, and (b) is the tooth fairy going to come and leave Murphy a dollar! ha!
I know, Chewie has already lost (and replaced) his front incisors...that's 12 teeth and I didn't find one of them. The new ones came in really fast. The ones in question now are the back ones...molars, I guess. I have two granddaughters both losing teeth currently...they think it's so funny.
I only found ONE tooth through the entire process...it was a back molar...found this after she flashed that toothy front grin at me (with all adult teeth)! It cracked me up because the one molar I found looked like a shallow human tooth! Don't worry about Chewie...he is just fine! BTW I have never found any other tooth and she is 6 months today and lost all teeth by 5 months. They must swallow them:)
