Chewie will be neutered in a few weeks. Our vet provides a list of all possible options from the minimum to everything you coud possibly imagine. We are opting somewhere in the middle. The only option we are undecided on is whether to use laser or not. The vet said the main advantage is decreased bleeding.
If you have opinions/experiences one way or another, I'd like to hear them. Thanks!
We just had our neutering this previous week. We chose the laser surgery, as I'm a nurse..and know that recovery time with a laser is much quicker...plus there is less pain, as nerve cells local the surgery are cauterized. My puppy is a big baby, so this really was the best idea..
He still did have 3 external stitches
Just an FYI..not sure if incision is smaller without laser...but here's his 3 stitches..
And we purchased some extra small boy's briefs...and used them to put over his incision whenever he seemed be bothered by it or licked it. He doesn't mind the briefs at all..
Thanks for the opinions...I am leaning toward using the laser if it reduces discomfort and recovery time. Those little boy briefs are too cute...might have to get some. Preferable to wearing one of those collars also.
Jane - I had already decided in favor of the IV catheter and fluids and bloodwork. Along with the laser option, it will add $232 to the price. The laser option is $60.
The laser option was only an additional $60 for me as well..and Bentley is my baby..and I'd do anything to make his recovery quicker and easier..so there was no decision to make-it was already made. In my opinion, I'd do it again.
But yeah, buy some briefs before hand..I ran to target got a 5 pack of Xsmall briefs...and then you can have the tail come out of hte little opening..he doesn't mind them..and I put them on whenever he's interested in licking his incision..and when we put him to bed for the night. We did not have to use a cone at all..though without the briefs, we would've
I totally understand...Chewie is my baby also! I think I will pick up some briefs. How much does Bentley weigh as a comparison for sizes. Chewie is probably around 21-22 lbs currently.
