We are so looking forward to picking up little London from Almond Blossom this Saturday. We have been preparing for his arrival for months. As the date approaches, we were wondering if any of you out there had any tips or advice for the car ride home and the first couple of nights. This is the first dog for both of us, and we just want to make sure everything goes as smooth as possible. We will be driving back to San Francisco, so the ride is about an hour and a half. Some people have told us to hold him; others have said to put him in his crate. Any advice would be very much appreciated by London’s soon-to-be parents. We are nervous but SUPER excited.
Thanks!!!!
p.s. I have attached the lasted picture Julie sent us of the pups. SO adorable!
Hi,
This week has been amazing in so many ways. As you know, London is our first dog.. We read many things online and were prepared for the worst. But we have been blown away by how smart he is: he sleeps through the night and never had one accident, he learns quickly (he actually fetches, or we like to believe he does :) ), he is so loving.. The beginning of the week was hard as we put him in a dark crate in the living room for the first night. That did not last as he was not happy about it. We changed the crate for a more open one the next day and put the crate in our room. Ever since, the crate has become his own space and we basically have to wake him up to remind him he is due for the bathroom. We noticed that he is starting to get more feisty, which at times can be a little overwhelming.
Anyway, great time with our London. Can't wait to have him meet his friends from Almond Blossom.
Glad that things are going well. If the feisty behavior is taking the form of wanting to nip at hands etc. just distract him with a toy. Baby teeth are soooo sharp. I think they are like kids and want attention just when you are getting dinner ready or any other time you don't have a lot of time to spare.
