Has anyone used the system that plugs in and works with the Inv Fence collar to create inside barriers? I am looking to give my one year old pup more freedom in my house and wonder if this works. Any suggestions?
Yes. We have a disk in our Dining Room and one at the entrance to our daughters room. They work very very well. Our puppy hears the beep and backs up. I would recommend trying to place them in an area where it can remain plugged into the wall vs trying to remember to charge it. Good luck.
Ours is directly from Invisible Fence. It is a small disk...approx. 6 inches in diameter. The ones we have can be plugged into the wall or they hold a "charge" from being plugged into the wall for approx. 30 days. Example: In our dining room...ideally we would place it in the center of the room....that isn't really practical because there is no outlet in the middle...so we have it plugged into the wall (it can acutally hang on the wall) at the far end and turn it to its strongest / or biggest radius...it protects both entrances so puppy cannot get in the dining room. Upstairs we have one outside our daughters bedroom...puppy know how far he can come down the hallway and just sits there and waits....no stolen stuffed animals = no drama. We trained first on our outside sytem first. After two months of our puppy being good on the outside boundaries we started using the disks. He has never "tested" the inside boundaries. If he hears the beep, he backs up.
Not sure how long IF have offered these disks. I'm pretty sure you can see them on-line. We got ours back in August. Initially we only got one, but when we realized how well it worked we got a second one mailed to us.....one of them will be moved when we put up the Christmas Tree. Smile!
What a great tool. I have never used the outside fence, but I like the sound of this. I'm a little worried that my two might set on the otherside and bark at you if they were restricted when they could see you. How are the dogs when there are peope in the rooms they can't enter and they have visual contact? What is the cost (ball park)?
I believe one disk is about $100. Our puppy just sits and waits. We can have a nice dinner in the dining room when guests visit. And it is a safe area for our kitty to escape to, should there be a "chase". I will say puppy sits down with a loud thump...so everyone knows he is dismayed, but he does not bark or whine. Just a thud and a deep sigh.
We don't use such a system but I have cousins who use it for their lab. The interesting thing about theirs is that it came with flags to set out so that the dog would have a visual to link to the presence of the inv fence inside. Now, they don't need to use the system at all because the dog doesn't go into any room where the flag is. The nice thing about this is that they can move flags to create this association in different areas, particularly when they travel so that the system doesn't have to travel with them. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what they used but it kept her out of their dining room and from going upstairs.
Thanks for all your replies. If you go on www.invisiblefence.com, you will see it under indoor solutions. It is on special for $111 until 11/10,( usually $139). They say it works thru windows and wood, so you cna put it on a basement ceiling and it works upstairs. They also recommend the ultrasonic remote for $39, made by Petsafe,..no collar required, to stop bad behavior as it happens..jumping, getting on counters etc. Now if only can figure out how to train him on it.
