Interceptor & Worms

A few days before I got Simon, my Australian Labradoodle puppy, he was wormed by the breeder. About a week later, at 4 months old, I started him on Interceptor (heartworm/roundworm/whipworm preventive). Two weeks into the 30-day Interceptor cycle Simon vomitted a round worm (nothing in his stool). I took him to the vet, got dewormer and gave him half with instructions to give the other half in 14 days. Tomorrow is the the day he is supposed to get the other half and it is also the day he is supposed to get his monthly Interceptor tablet. This seemed like a lot of chemical to be putting in a puppy's system. I called my vet's and they said to give the meds a day apart. Then I called Novartis, the manufacturer, and they were absolutely no help.
I was wondering if anyone had used Interceptor and their dog had gotten intestinal parasites anyway. And if your vet has had you give dewormer and Interceptor (or Sentinel) on the same day?
Simon is a very healthy little guy and he goes a lot of places with me, which I am sure is how he gots the round worms. It just concerns me - dumping that many chemicals in that short period of time into a baby dog.

I give both on the same day too. Lucky I can remember one day, I think.

Thanks for the replies. I don't use Frontline, though. The med I was concerned about is a separate wormer used in addition to Interceptor. Since Interceptor has worm-killing properties, it seemed using an additional wormer on top of that on the same day or even the next day might be "overkill," for lack of a better word.
I called and talked to a technical rep at Novartis, manufacturer of Interceptor, yesterday and was told the effectiveness of the Interceptor depends on what time in the worm's life-cycle the Interceptor is taken. And the Interceptor only effects the ADULT worms that might have developed at the time the dose is taken.
It just seemed two worm-killing meds on the same day or even within 24 hours of each other might be too harsh for a puppy's system.

I'm not a drug expert, but since they work in different ways using completely different mechanisms and there is no known reason (I'm guessing) to NOT use them as the vet said...I wouldn't think it's a big deal. Chemicals aren't necessarily bad because they are chemicals.
