haha. We should just have our own doodle show! :)
HaHa - I'm in!!
Okay! Let's go Otter Hound - Looks similar to a doodle!!!
The AKC is thinking about making Australian Labradoodles purebred dogs. They meet all the standards.
curious~ where was this data made available?
My trainer I go too said theAKC is thinking about mixed breeds so..... Maybe real soon we will have a show of doodles

YEA DOODLES
There is a program in place which allows mixed breeds to compete separately in AKC performance events such as Obedience, Agility and Rally.

Mixed breeds can not compete in conformation classes (dog show like you see on TV) because those classes are for breeding dogs. Owners need to have a purebred AKC recognized breed to compete in these classes at an AKC All Breed show.

There is nothing, however, to keep a Doodle group from organizing their own conformation shows. Many rare breed or FSS groups do this. I've often wondered why Doodle breeders don't do this.
many of us have tried but there are several problems
A. Many dont want to travel
B. Many dont breed toward a look or type and prefer to breed for health as the breed is still young and in the making
C. Many breeding dont even know how to judge conformation of their own dogs
It would be difficult to have a conformation show for anything less than a multigen. Too much variation in the early generation and who's idea of correct conformation would be used (in the lower gens)? Some like blockier heads, others don't, etc.
There is a breed standard so regardless of what some "like" there is an expected look... This is why we will not be AKC anytime soon. Many breeders do not breed toward a standard. Even an F1 should have a specific look... even if the coat is not perfect there is a progression of looks in the development.

fine bodies, narrow heads, overly curly, overly sparse coat or shedding coats should be bred away from.

: )
Yes, but the breed standard can't possibly be the same for all doodles of all generations.
How can someone exclusively breeding F1's POSSIBLY aim for a standard if there is no goal to advance to something that breeds true. Each F1 breeding is mostly a crapshoot.

I may have an idea of which features of mine and which of my hubby's would be loveliest in my baby--but actually believing I have any say in how my daughter will look (which features she'll get) is totally unrealistic. That's about the same as an F1/F1b breeder breeding toward a standard. I can see if the breeder had goals of advancement...but not all do. And my favorite is the early gen doodles--so for someone like me...there is no hope (which is fine) of my favorite 'breed' being accepted into a breed club.
there is no reason to breed if not to advance!
