My husband and I live in NW Austin with Puka, Tom cat, Zedd, an African Grey Parrot, and Charlie, a Bare-eyed Cockatoo. Everyone gets along very nicely. I'm a self-employed business/marketing writer; my husband recently retired from the City of Austin and is working on a long list of honey-do's. We have two married daughters and a three-year-old granddaughter and two 11-month-old grandsons (as of Sept. 2008), who we babysit two or three afternoons each week.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We adopted Puka Dog in May 2008. Born on March 8, 2008 on Timshell Farms to Dolly and Max, she was one of 11 pups. She's a great puppy: calm, friendly, playful and smart. She loves the water, taking several swims each day in our pool, popping into the shower, and swimming in Lake Travis. She's wonderful with other dogs, babies and toddlers and loves to play ball.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
We've had two great Golden Retrievers: Yank and AJ. When we were forced to put AJ down earlier this year due to an inoperable mouth tumor, I decided to look into Goldendoodles. A good friend--Patti DeNucci--had adopted one and just raved. After 30+ years of Golden Retriever males with chronic skin and ear problems, I decided to shake things up. We adopted a female this time and decided on a Goldendoodle hoping that some of the health problems we had with the retrievers would be eliminated. So far, so good. She's turning six months and we've had no ear or skin problems, despite the fact that she's in out of the pool daily and spends much of the day outside. Her hair doesn't even mat.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
We take her for daily walks and let her run wild in the park for a few minutes each day. It serves to run some of her energy off! We also take her out on our boat. She loves to swim and she'll happily float on a noodle or raft. She's unflappable. We also took her on family trip to Arkansas when she was four months old. She traveled well and adapted to her new surroundings immediately, including new people and another dog.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Me, now. But when she's older, we're thinking about using Lucky Dog on Anderson Mill Rd.
Hi Debbie,
When I read about your puppy I couldn't believe it. We got our little boy from Tim Shell Farms too! At the time we lived in San Antonio. We now live in DE.
His mama was Pheobe and his daddy was Max. He is such a wonderful puppy. He is 14 months old. He is so beautiful people can keep their hands off of him! Wish I could send you a picture can't seem to figure it out

we are pretty desperate for people in Texas and would greatly appreciate anything that you could do..
Good to hear from you and all your dogs you have had! We thought we were being cleaver by naming him Yankee Doodle. I don't think that name would go over real well if Obama got a labradoodle and named him that because of the people in the south! I love your Dood's poodle cut!
Kachi was born March 4, 2008! Over a month ago he was already at 50 lbs, so if he continues to grow much more...yikes! And Kachi's dad was a minature poodle!! So much for buying a medium, instead of a standard!! But Kachi's just a tank... he also prefers to sleep on the tile in the bathroom, but when my husband leaves early in the morning, that's Kachi's cue to jump up and sleep ON me (usually)! He has no idea he's a big dog! And regarding her scratching...when Kachi was shaved for his neutering, he was so miserable, crying and wimpering, because he itched sooo badly, and couldn't scratch. His little tummy was bright red. I got some aloe, anti-itch, dog gel and put that on him, and he was much better.
Tell Puka, we think she's beautiful!
Kachi was completely perplexed by Petey, the African Gray! Once he stopped barking at her (quite annoying), he would just go over and stare at her. She was not afraid of him at all, which scared me because I'm sure given the chance, he would have had her in his mouth! But by the end of the second day, he was walking over to her cage, and throwing his ball under it! He couldn't figure out why she wasn't playing back so he would bark, bark, bark!
On the other note, how does Puka like her new do? I've been dreading it because Kachi also needs to be groomed, as he has started to get matted underneath! I'm scared because I have NO idea where to take him!
I'll let you know how it goes. Kachi tries to be tough, but he is the biggest cry baby, especially when he gets scared!! It should be very interesting! I'll keep you posted!
I love your new pictures!! We should arrange a marriage between Puka Dog & Kachi Behr! Too bad Kachi's been fixed because we could have been grandmothers to some really really cute puppies!( I see that you're already a grandmother to some adorable REAL babies!)So your Puka is a standard & weighs approx 35 lbs & my medium weighed 42 lbs on 8/29!! What a big lug my boy is- definitely took after his mom's side of the family! We're introducing Kachi (in a couple of weeks)to Petey, my mom's African Grey. Hopefully, Petey will assume the alpha role right away, or it could get interesting. I'm a little nervous. Kachi has stuffed toy birds that he throws all over the place! Hopefully, he'll be sufficiently scared enough to keep away from the cage! Does Puka get along well with your birds?
What a cutie!! She looks like my Kachi, and they almost share a birthday. His is March 4. Is she a standard, or a mini/medi? Kachi is a medium (only you'd never know it by looking at him)!
