I have 4 month old Standard sized Goldendoodle. The breeder sent us home with a bag of Iams Smart Puppy, so that's what we've continued feeding him. He eats about 4 cups a day! I'm curious what food…Continue

Hi Julie, I live in Richmond VA and I train dogs for Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog testing. It's good advice to check out the therapy dog group. I'd also suggest going to www.akc.org and click on the link for Canine Good Citizen. You can download the 10 Items on the CGC test. While CGC certification is not required for Therapy Dog, Inc (www.therapydogs.com) testing or membership, it is generally required to become a member of a local or regional therapy dog group. If your dog can pass the CGC, passing the Therapy Dog test is pretty easy. Connor my goldendoodle and I have been a therapy dog team since 2009. If you have any questions or I can be of help, please let me know. ~ Deb

Oh I am  glad Lucy and Annabelle's mom tracked you down - I was going to give you the same message.  See the comments section in the therapy dogs groups for links I posted to two therapy dog organizations.

Julie - re your questions to the therapy group -- It might be easier if you post your question as a discussion within the therapy group.  That way everyone can respond there and others can see what has already been said and not have to repeat everything and you won't get the same answers over and over.   But quickly, to try and answer some of your questions, at the top of the Therapy Group page there are links to the three main therapy organizations ... Delta Society (now Pet Partners); Therapy Dogs International and Therapy Dogs Inc..  If you  click on the name it will take you to their website.  Once there if you look around you will be about to find all the requirements for each organization as well as you should be able to do a search with your zip code to see if there are local evaluators.  There could also be some local groups in your area.  Just do a google search for Therapy Dog Organizations.  As for the Training Classes it isn't a requirement that you take a specific Therapy class, but you will need excellent obedience skills along with the right temperment.  Must be outgoing with people and not show any fears towards any of them.  Some of the training classes involve using wheel chairs, crutches, walkers and things like that but you can always do that yourself.  If you want a class, do a google search for Therapy Dog Classes in your area.

BTW, there is a breeder in Washington who is planning to breed Sheepadoodles (Old English Sheepdogs/Poodle) and I think Maxwell is a pretty good indication of what they might look like.

This is a great place to share about doodles. There are many groups that you can join. For example, there are groups for grooming, nutrition, health/medical, types of doodles, puppy groups etc. Look at the top of your page and click on Groups - check them out. Enjoy!
