Fairly new to Omaha. Moved here from Phoenix, Arizona two years ago. Never lived in the Midwest before, so loving the change of scenery and seasons again after spending 25 years in the Arizona desert. Came here with my partner, Dan, who landed a job here. I'm currently a stay-at-home doodle-dad, and would love to meet other doodle-dads and doodettes!
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We have a 9-year-old non-shedding Goldendoodle (Buster - from a breeder) and a 5-year-old mega-shedding Labradoodle (Scooter - from the dog pound). They are our pride and joy!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder, Shelter
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Like many people, I wanted a doodle the first time I saw one. The fact that they were "non-shed" dogs was very attractive too. At the time, we had a recently-passed Golden Retriever and a Black Lab that, of course, shed like nobody's business. Luckily, the Goldendoodle we got barely sheds at all. Six years later, after our Black Lab has passed, we found a wonderful Labradoodle at our local dog pound. Thinking we'd like another "non-shed" doodle (and wanting to find a Labradoodle to compliment our Goldendoodle's great personality), we snapped him up. He's been so much fun to have -- only, we describe him as our "defective doodle" because he also sheds like nobody's business. Oh well, what's a mountain of dog hair on *everything* in the house? They're definitely worth it!
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
It must be petting because I seem to be doing that a hundred times a day! Our two doods always want affection and are always nudging my hand away from my computer mouse or the TV remote to insist I pet them. Other than mega-petting, just running around with them outdoors, and sleeping with them (when they allow us on our bed) are my other favorite times.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Yes!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
We do now. We used to pay groomers $80-$100 for grooming both, but we decided to save that $$$ and do it ourselves.

Like you, we assumed the non-shedding was a given (how naive we were) when we got our first doodle, and luckily he didn't shed (although the work to maintain that non-shedding but heavily-matting coat was a total shock), and then we got Clancy from for shelter.... Clancy is a goldendoodle and sheds like nobody's business. There is a group on dk for shedding doodles. :-} And one for grooming, and nutrition, and so much more. . .
Hi Mike ~ love your profile photo of Buster and Scooter! We generally spend two months (Jan & Feb) in Cave Creek AZ to get away from the Washington winter. I can understand why you are enjoying the changing seasons of the Midwest. Be sure to check out all the groups on the main page and join as many as you like. Welcome to Doodle Kisses!
