I notice you have an adorable Goldendoodle named Soleil. So do we! How did you pick the name? We were going to name our new puppy "Sunny" or "Sonny" because we're in Palm Springs where it's always sunshine. But I figure since her mother was a French Poodle, Soleil would be quite appropriate (after we decided on a female). I see a lot of similarities between our girls. Here's a photo of our Soleil attached - Best Wishes, Jackie Winch
Hi Terri
Thanks for the update on Cooper. We are considering another class but have not researched it yet. We had our labs trained on electronic leashes and that worked great. We may look into that for Soleil. We took her with us to St. Louis this past weekend. She travels so well. She also got to visit with a number of her dog buddies. She is still recovering from all that playing. It would be great to get them together to romp. We have been running her on some baseball fields right by our house. That works really well. The fields are part of Bloomingdale's park system but behind a school. It would be a good place to meet if it is convenient for you. I generally don't get home until 5 but could probably work something out if I know ahead of time. We think Soleil is about 60 pounds or more. she is huge. Let me know if you have any thoughts on "play dates"
How are you guys? How's Soleil doing? Is she remembering her doggy class lessons? Cooper has hit a phase that he doesn't "remember" much. I think its selective memory. He hears me, he knows what I'm saying, but he doesn't feel like doing it. I'm thinking about finding another class somewhere this spring or summer. If it ever dries up, I'd love to get together and let the dogs meet up again. Not sure I'm interested in a mud party, but.... Let me know if you'd like to get together on one of these nice evenings or weekends.
Cooper still does pretty well on leash. He's a bit psycho at first, but we he finds out we aren't going anywhere when he jumps around like that, he chills out. His issue is with mouthing us. He has always got his teeth wrapped around someones arm or leg or rear end. Its like he does it just to get our attention. He doesn't bite down and hurt or do it in an agressive way...he's just screwing around trying to get our goat. He does it EVERY time I get on the phone. Sneaks up and grabs me with his teeth. Then the battle ensues. I can't yell at him, because I'm on the phone....etc. etc. etc.
If you guys ever want to meet up somewhere to let them romp and get rid of some energy, let me know. We are heavy into wrestling season for the boys, but we are around most Saturdays.
Cooper has got to be about 65# by now. He's really starting to fill out. We haven't been to the vet since he was neutered about a month ago. He needs some playtime desperately. Its been so cold that we aren't even walking him much. How's Soleil?
Sounds like our dogs are all growing about the same. Soleil is 40 pounds right now. She had her surgery last week and did well. She however did not like the cone and managed to figure out how to untie it and get it off so we gave up.
She is doing great with the crate. She stays alone all day and does fine. She also rings a bell to go out. She finished her first session of puppy classes and is now in the "graduate program." She heads to the groomer this week for the first time. She does not seem to be scratching or itching. We have her on Purina Pro Plan for puppies and she loves it. Occasionally she gets a pig ear also. We have visitors this weekend who brought their cavapoo puppy. It has been great fun to watch them play.
soleil is now about 31 pounds and really doing well. She is sleeping on our schedule! We have her nails trimmed regularly, our vet does it for us. I am not sure when she will get her first haircut - any thoughts? She has her surgery, microchip scheduled for November 13. Her coat seems to be getting a little darker and she still has those baby teeth. How is everyone's puppy doing?
At puppy class last night the instructor suggested Binaca - just be sure it gets in their mouth. We will give it a try. she mentioned the lemon also so that is another good option. It seems like it is stopping - I am sure she just wants to play. Thanks for sharing.
I saw your post about Soleil nipping. Halas was doing this, too. I tried the usual remedies, but they didn't work. Then someone told me to just squirt a drop or 2 of RealLemon (that lemon juice that comes in the bottle that looks like a lemon) in his mouth when he starts to nip. He really hates that, and the nipping stopped almost immediately. I had to do it twice, and now I just have to get the lemon or tell him I'm getting the lemon, and he stops. He keeps playing, but he stops nipping.

I was hoping to keep in touch since Cooper and Soleil hit it off so well!
Have a very Merry Christmas!
