Our (really) sweet 2 year old Samson growls at me at times in the house.  I understand this is an alpha tendancy, but how do I get him to stop?   I believe we've tried most everything.  He will retreat to his covered pen all the while growling.  The tail invariably goes up whenever he seems annoyed at my presence!  Sometimes he will go to my husband and if I come in the room he will leave!  We've noticed it occurs more often in the late day to evening hours.  Otherwise he's happy and playful with other people and dogs.  (Does he need more dog interaction perhaps?  He plays with other dogs only a few days per week, should it be more?).

Yikes!  No advice, but so sorry to hear this is happening!

What have you tried?  What triggers the growling?  What training have you done?

Who feeds him, who walks him?  Have you inadvertently reinforced the growling by giving him something - talking, petting,?

Does your mete presence trigger his growling?

How long has this been going on for?

Have you had him tested for thyroid issues?

There can be a connection with aberrant behavior and hypothyroidism.
