Is it common or even normal for a doodles tail to curl up and over it's back(like a Husky or American Eskimo) Our new Goldendoodle has this tail that is always curled up....the tip touches her back most of the time. I posted a pic so you could kinda see what I'm talking about, I'd love to know if anyone else has one like this!?!? (sorry 'bout the pics...she doesn't stay still very long ~lol~)
Hi nice pictures:) Murphy will hold his tail like that to, but now that he is full grown it doesn't curl over his back anymore, but yes it still curls..... so what parent do they get that from?
The poodle, most likely...pure-bred poodles have their tails docked, so it's hard to know what they would look like if they were left natural.
The breed standard for labs (and I think goldens too) is for what is called a "saber" tail...hanging down but with a slight curve back.
My Jack's tail actually curls up & around into a little circle at the end, even when it's hanging down. I think with these hybrids, you see everything, especially in the F1's. For me, it's part of their appeal.
It's called a teapot tail. Not abnormal. I think most breeders try to breed away from that...but it's not a "problem" just a preference. I think it's kinda cute and as it grows a bit and gets fluffier it will look pretty doodley =) Now that I see it, though...I wouldn't even say that it's a real "tea pot" tail...most are even curlier! But perhaps a breeder will step in and say more =)
No... it's called a gay tail. My dog Cass (who you know Adina!) has one. It is a fault in Border Collies but normal in other breeds. It can be a sign of a dominant dog... or not. Cass is one dominant bitch!

oh that one isn't very curly. Dyson's tail make a near circle. It's kind of funny looking now because it's grown into quite the plume. I hope they don't start docking the tails of doodles though then they'll look like ever other CKC/AKC breed out there... Dyson would look like a wheaten terrier on steroids....
Unfortunately, the puppy mills ARE docking the doodles tails; guess they get in the way in those crowded filthy little cages.
My favorite thing about Jack's little curl is that sometimes when he's walking ahead of me on leash, his leash actually gets into the "circle", and it's like a leash holder, lol!
We've met a few doods with docked tails. I don't like it at all. One of them we met had a full dock (kinda like a rottie) with only a little nub left. Part of what makes doodles so cute is their fringed tails. All of the doodle owners we've met with docked tails have seen Kali's lovely tail and wished that their dogs had a full tail. I really wish we would follow the UK's lead and make docking illegal. I know there are arguments for it, but they really don't seem very justified.
