Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

greetings, all! I am wondering if anyone's 'doodle has chronically loose stools. The vet has checked out 9-month-old Armistead and declares him fit; but unless he eats the Science diet prescribed by the vet, his stools are loose and difficult to bag on our neighborhood walks. The Science diet is full of undigestible fiber and is very expensive. Do other 'doodle owners have this problem? Thanks.

I thank you all for sharing all this wonderful information. Jacquie started me on cooking dinner for Samantha and changing her kibble. I tried a small bag of Solid Gold Cub but she really doesn't love it. I am going to Whole Foods, after her new class today and try theirs.
Samantha has only had an occasional poop-issue, which was my fault. I noticed that Tuesday nights her tummy wasn't happy. In Puppy class, they get treat after treat.after treat when doing a new command well. Well, needless to say it took me 2 Tuesday nights of her suffering to figure it out and now she gets her ball as her reward and only a few treats.
My input to this is - veggies have to be in small pieces. Raw, she munches the carrots but cooked they are inhaled, nbot chewed. If not cut small, cooked pieces come out the same size they go in. Our friends at the Sandy Hook Beach Romp saw that first hand, which was a little embarrassing for me. I learned the hard way.
We have been feeding ours Natural Balance for over a year and since we made the switch we have good poops and no ear infections. It is grain free and we were feeding duck/potato and have switched to fish/sweet potato. We rarely give anything besides their actual dog food. I think giving too many other foods/treats can cause stomach problems.
Wow I thought it was just my pup! I've spent about $1000 in vet bills and food over the last 3 months with Gordon and his diarrhea. The poor little guy even lost 5 lbs. After 2 rounds of antibiotics he is now doing better, solid poops for almost 2 weeks. Right now he is eating a combination of the Medi-cal Gastro diet from the vet and Eagle Pack Holistic Select Chicken and Rice. The vets never could find anything wrong with him, no parasite or worms. I'm not sure if he really had a bacteria or the anti inflammatory effects of the antibiotics he was on helped. Science Diet is not the greatest food, neither is the Medi-cal we are giving Gordon so I supplement with a higher end food. Really I'm at the point where I will give him whatever keeps his poops solid. Good luck with your pup, I recommmend the Eagle Pack for sure!
Raya had some issues also. She was eating Innova EVO and it turned out the protein levels were too high for her system to handle. We switched, completely, not 50/50, to now! by Petcurean (grain free) and her poops were great within a few days. My last doodle, had severe tummy issues and was diagnosed with severe IBD at 9 months. I guess its out there in our doodles!

My puppy is 4 months old and has never had a solid stool we have done 3 fecal tests and nothing was found she was treated with metranotizale and that did not help either we tried pumpkin and yogurt mixed with science diet, we just started her on Blue wildernessgerain free  yesteday and hoping for improvement she has an appt at the vet Monday but im thinking we are just in for some expensive test. other than loose stoools she is healthy and growing and gaining weight like she should.

Jaime, this is a discussion from 2009 you would be better posting in the Food Group where you will get some very good advice that is up to date.
