Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I just met a new kind of doodle, to me at least. It's half poodle and half corgi. He was adorable. Picture a mini doodle, with no tail and legs about 4 inches long. I wish I had taken a photo. Has anyone else seen this?

Sally, there are people breeding anything with a Poodle; if the term "doodle" is going to be used for all of them, there are probably 2 hundred different kinds of "doodles". They're often called something-poos, as well. But no reputable breeder is producing them.
We've talked about where the word "doodle" comes from as it relates to our dogs. The name Labradoodle is actually a combination of Labrador and Poodle: LABRAD(or-p)OODLE, which makes sense. Calling every other Poodle mix a "doodle" doesn't ,when you really think about it.
There have always been mixed breed dogs, of every conceivable combination. There's nothing "new" about some Poodle being bred to some other breed, accidentally or otherwise. IMO, if you do it deliberately, you need to have a good reason for it.
Here's one of the better discussions we've had about this in the past: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/shitzu-poodle
They are mixing tons of dogs with Corgis. It makes for some really lovable funny looking low to the ground dogs. Take a pic if you see it again!
Sally - I am sure that the puppy was cute and a great pet but as others have said it is not a mix that a responsible breeder would breed.
I have to agree with what others have said here. The labrador retriever poodle cross was done for a reason - to try to produce a hypoallergenic guide dog. While that experiment was not a complete success, the labrador/golden retriever/poodle cross has proven to produce a loving, people-oriented, insanely intuitive and intelligent dog that excels at therapy work - and may be non-shedding. The ALD had some cocker thrown into the mix to produce a better coat and bring down the size or so the story goes. My point is that these breeds were all essentially gentle highly intelligent and people-oriented hunting/water dogs bred and the retrievers had already excelled at being service and guide dogs. I just have to wonder what is the purpose -other than money and the adorable factor-- when you mix poodles with herding dogs terriers, etc. Of course, we know why poodles get mixed with toy breeds - to have a dog that doesn't shed in your pocketbook.
Funny Cheryl, I laughed at the thought of one of my doodles in my suitcase ,pocketbook. All 60 # of him. Maybe I need a toy poodle mix next time???? lol
