Hi there! I'm new to doodle kisses and I'm a new doodle owner!!  I couldn't be happier with my choice.  I had the craziest thing happen last week and would love if someone had any insight, thoughts or ideas about the ofllowing...  On Friday I took my 14 week old puppy to the groomer for a bath and to get his nails cut.   I also asked them to clean his eyes and trim the hair a tiny bit so he could see.  Well he seemed a bit anxious when I left him but the groomer said she specializes in puppies and had 22 years experience.  Well I wasn't thrilled with how he looked when I got him back the gave him poodle feet and trimmed completely under and between his eyes.  He didn't have any of the shaggyness I love.  When I got my puppy home he was so sad, despondant wouldn't even wag his tail!  I was absolutely besides my self he wouldn't even come to me unless I had a treat and even then he would take the treat and wouldn't let me pet him.  Even my husband couldn't believe how sad he was.  This went on for 2 days!!  On Sunday morning he started getting back to normal and today he's completely back to normal.  I really thought I lost my silly and very happy pup.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to avoid that kind of response again....

Thank you And I posted pics, so you can see the before and after.  He's still a cutie, I just realy liked that 'shaggy dog' look.

You might find this amusing: Porter's last two trips to the groomer have been Spa Day with His Best Friend.  My neighbor and I work it so that they go together.  I'll do anything to make the process less hard on my guy...also a sensitive one.

The funny thing is I had his feet and face done poodle style this time for the sake of my floors, and passers-by are exclaiming over how handsome he is.  No negative feelings about his hairstyle here :-)  One man crossed the street to rub and cuddle with him, all the while crooning, "Best in show, yes, you are best in show, uh huh..."  Cracked me up.

My girl, Sunny, is terrified of the dryer. The first time that she went to the groomer, they tried to put her in the "drying kennel" where there is a huge dryer blowing all around them, and it's very loud and can't be escaped. I'm sure it's terrifying. Luckily, my groomer saw that she was terrified of the dryer, so she took her out and dried her by hand.

You might want to go back to that groomer and ask what happened, and if they left your puppy in the drying kennel.

I know that dogs also can become dehydrated in the drying kennel, so that may have happened as well.

That's so interesting that you said that about the dehydration... he was sooo thirsty when he came home.  Hmmmm.   I'm just not going to go back.  I will be hyper vigilant the next time.  Which is crazy because I checked out 4 groomers and was so specific as to what I wanted..  soo frustrating.  But I learned my lesson!

Thank you for your comments.

Join the doodle grooming group right away! This is such a common conundrum! I groom Neely Myself and have to thank the doodle grooming group for the advice!
I'm going to check that out now.  Thank you so much!
I think maybe your puppy was also very tired.  When you find a new groomer, if s/he is any good s/he will let your puppy stay and visit her for a half hour for free.  Then just have a bath or a mini trim and work up to the full deal.

I spoke to our trainer and that's what she said she would do.  I truly appreciate your input.
