I would put this in the traveling or medicine group but the traveling group is not viewed very much and I think I may have made up the medicine group(?)
Anyway, my question is...(I go to a fine vet)...I asked about pre medicating DerbyDoodle if we are delayed by bad weather flying into Florida
She prescribed Acepromazine/ one half or 5 mg & to try a few days before to see if that dosage works....if not increase by 1/4 more.
I administered the trial dose today @ 1:00pm
It took effect 2 hrs later..DerbyDoodle became pretty sleepy & groggy
That lasted 2 hrs. & she slowly started to get more energy ...I would say she was running on about 70% real DerbyDoodle at 8:30 pm
She is just 9 lbs so I think the 1/2 dosage is fine.
We put her in bed for the nite then
I am Anticipating some type of weather related delay into Fla. Sunday....I have never experienced an on time departure in Oct to Fla
That being said & b/c I am Fully prepared...we could have clear skies & smooth "sailing"
The Big Question is: should I use this on the ride to the airport without any real knowledge of a delay or wait and probably have a very delayed reaction on the pooch.
My concern is the airlines are very strict about keeping dogs in their carriers ..even in the lounges/waiting areas....a 2.5 trip can easily become 4-6 hrs
2 nd question : anyone know much about this medication?
Thanks for your input!
And anyone visiting S.E. Florida coast give a holler ....we are there till end of May!!
