I've heard varying opinions so I wanted to ask here.   We have a male dood now and want to get dood #2.   Initially I was told to get a female but another breeder told me with doodles it doesn't matter so it wouldn't make a difference if we got a male the second time around as well.    Opinions?  Thanks!

We currently have a female with our second, a male, arriving on Friday. Growing up, I always had two females. I really think the personality and general disposition of the dogs matters more than the gender. It will be interesting to see what others think but if I remember correctly, this type of discussion has surfaced before.
We have two male doodles and there are no problems althought the alpha dog is an 11 lb cat named Simon ! Jasper and Maris are half brothers and they absolutely love each other .
Look at the multiple doodles group, there are couple of discussion about this exact topic!! Good luck! Two is fun!

I looked at that group and saw a topic of male/female and training but didn't actually see a topic about which 'combination' is recommended most. I'll look again. Thanks.
Our trainer, who is a doctorate in animal psychology at U of MI told me that the most successful relationships between dogs are boy-girl, boy-boy, girl-girl. I was set on going to get a another girl before she told me this. But I think doods are a breed where sex may not matter they are really good dogs all the way around. We ended up with a boy and girl and love having one of each!! Their personalites are so different but compliment each other really well...
On the whole I don't think it matters. I have had multiple girls, multiple boys, mixed girls and boy so.....
We have had Lexi for 2 1/2 years, a spayed female and introduced Billy, a neutered male to our family 5 months ago. They bonded after a breif period, they play, share and are never more then a few feet apart. I do not think sex matters as long as they have been fixed. Lexi , our female at 2 yrs and 38 lbs is the Alpha over Billy, 11 months and 64lbs.
Having two is a never ending Joy....but twice the work!
Thank you. That will be the approximate age difference if we get the second dood when I suspect we will. I have so many concerns about the second doodle since #1 is so spoiled. I have the same apprehensions that many have probably had on this group. I don't want to hurt doodle #1's feelings. LOL! Am I the only one that has such crazy concerns. :-)
I was very worried about the same thing as Webber was almost three and very pampered. His feelings were hurt but after I spent more one to one time with him, alone, he "came back". The two of them play and groom one another now. There was never any fighting, Webber just ignored everything I asked him to do and wouldn't look at me. We started a Rally obedience class together and he forgave me. Thank heavens!! It is harder to travel but the two of them are so cute together.
I have the same concerns too. Our #2 was just born so at this point we don't know what sex we will end up with. I agree with the male marking as to stroll and the female just walks!!! Sometimes that does get trying:)
I was just reading (maybe in the multiple doodle Group) to make sure #1 gets fed first, gets hugs and pets first, etc...at least until the transition is over.
I know it won't be easy, BUT I can't wait!!!
I don't think there is a huge difference when they are neutered. DH and I envision another boy when we get a second, but in the end temperament is more important to us.
This is a great question and we too are considering another (but not for a year)....I know we will get a female, we had a male for 14 years and the difference to me is only the walks, with a male it was more like a stroll because he had to "mark" every 10 feet and with Daisy we just go for a walk. Can't wait to experience 2 wonderful creatures together! Daisy gets along with either gender so far (with the exception of 2 dogs in our neighborhood who don't like anyone but each other).
