There's nothing you can do to change or alter a dog's bone structure. Doodle size is very unpredictable, as with any mixed breed.
Many doodles continue to grow until their 1st birthday and continue to gain weight in the form of muscle mass even past their first birthday, but there's nothing you can do to make that happen. Dougal will get larger and heavier, I'm sure, but I doubt that he is ever going to weigh 40 kg unless you let him get grossly overweight, lol. Love him as he is; size really doesn't matter, and bigger dogs generally have shorter life expectancies and more health problems than smaller ones. As long as he is healthy, that's the most important thing.
I would guess 30-35 kg at the most if he is 22 at 8 months--he may not get much taller though.
oh, sorry, 7 months--so yeah, 30-35 and he will get a bit taller.
My F1 doodle is 46lbs @ 8 Months. I do have to say that I was surprised because he looks much heavier, but I think that his mass of fur makes for a bit of an optical illusion. My vet did say that they may continue to grow until 18mths of age, so I wouldn't rule anything out just yet.
You can likely expect him to gain 10-15 more lbs. He is a cutie!
Maserati is much smaller than his siblings. He isn't the smallest, but it was quite fun to see he and his litter mates all together. Their sizes ranged greatly, some larger than their parents and some about the same or smaller.
With mixed breeds size is more difficult to predict.
Dougal is so handsome. He is also still young, many dogs grow to 12 months and sometimes beyond. He has a few more months!
My dog's parents were 55 and 65 pounds. At 4 years my dog is only 37 pounds. She is much smaller than either parent. I think whatever size your doodle ends up you'll eventually think it is the perfect size. I can't imagine my pup being 20-30lbs bigger.
No doubt, it's a crap shoot when trying to determine size and height. As Karen said, as long as he is healthy. Our Girl Enzo looks so much heavier than she is. Someone commented today, she must be close to 70 lbs. Nope...a whopping 47 lbs. Mom was a 50+ Golden and Dad a huge, monster of a Poodle.. She is just a yr, so I'm guessing she'll fill out some, but underneath all that hair is a very skinny Poodle body. She is the least food motivated dog I have ever seen. So we just continue to free feed her Orijen Puppy.
Speaking from experience with Oscar, he seemed to stall out in the weight gaining department at about the same age as Dougal, but it slowly picked up again and he continued to gain weight through his 2nd year. At 1 year he weighed 55 lbs. Now, at 2 he's almost 70. He might surprise you and get to where you were expecting after all.
