Came home from teaching and Ginger got the Heartguard plus tabs and ate 4 of them.  Called vet, and they said nothing should happen...maybe just vomiting or diarrhea.  Is this right?

thanks

I don't agree with the vets about a lot of things, but for something like this, I'd believe them. Especially since many of them rarely miss an opportunity to run up a bill, lol. I think it takes an awful lot of ivermectin or pyrantel (the active ingredients in Heartgard Plus) to cause a problem. So if your vet doesn't feel he/she needs to see her, I'd just keep an eye on her.

From what I have read, toxicity for ivermectin (the active ingredient in Heartgard) occurs at 10 to 20 times the normal dose. It seems to me that the vet information is reasonable for this situation.

PHEW!! Glad that she only ate 4!!

thank you all...I feel better checking the vet's advice with the professionals!!

LOL, Pam!

I hope and believe she'll be just fine.

Pam I do the same thing, I believe nothing until I hear it here.. So true.....

Don't you just hate it when they are able to get into something you thought you had 'baby proofed' for?  We had medicine for one dog set well back on our counter where none of our dogs could get to it.  We never took into account our daughter visiting with her lab who could reach the back of the counter - all ended well for us too, but we had one wild ride to the vet.
