It was a great weekend photographing a local alpaca shearing.  I will try to get the Smilebox posted here on DK.

These are very cool pictures.  Thanks for sharing, Lynda.

Wow, such big animals to shear!! Love the close ups pics!

Sounds like fun, Lynda I watched them shear a few babies a couple years ago. I think the baby is called a cria. What I think is most charming about alpacas is that they hum to communicate to each other. A whole bunch of them humming is hysterical! Fun pictures!!

I posted a Smilebox of the entire day, but it is not posted correctly.  It is in the blogs.

We used to own alpacas and we did our own shearing.  The funniest thing about shearing is that alpacas don't recognize each other after their haircuts.  They are such sight animals that we've had babies not know their own mamas.  Rather than grouping in a herd, shorn alpacas will be spread out across the field because they don't recognize their friends.  There was one guy who kept jumping out of the shorn alpaca field into the full-fleeced waiting pen because he didn't know any of those weird naked creatures.  Of course, the full-fleeced alpacas stayed away from him because he was shorn and they didn't recognize HIM.  They are amusing animals.....

That is so funny! You would think that they would recognize the smell, like dogs do. Poor Mamas with their babies. It must be scary for the baby!
