First of all, I don't want anyone thinking I am trying to compete with Jane's gator scare yesterday. If I lived there, I would already be packing my bags. We had a salamander in the basement and I almost did (in my pants) what Stuart was doing when the gator showed up, when I saw that thing. On top of that, Jane got hit on by her Gastro doctor yesterday and I am lucky if I can get my own husband to hit on me.  Finally, if that wasn't enough, she was almost run over by a small horse/Great Dane, and I did once stop a runaway horse, but it did not happen yesterday, so this is in no way a competition. Now, with that being said, I had a very big scare yesterday too and when my husband got home he said he had the same experience.

I got up yesterday morning like I always do and since I don't drink coffee, I took the dogs out without any drink. I had on my best terry cloth robe dating back to 2004 and if you remember, I lost the belt somewhere along the way, so I used a LL Bean butterfly scarf for the belt. As usual, my shoes were not at the door, so I put on my old rubber boots and opened the door. The dogs were enjoying running around and I was walking around minding my own business when I spotted this in the bushes....please hold on to your coffee cups, because I am taking no responsibility if what you are about to see causes a heart attack:

Here is an even better angle:

Ok, I realize this does not have large teeth that can hurt you, but if you are wandering around and happen to glance down and see this motley looking thing in your bushes, one has a tendency to scream and assume it is a dead animal.  What it really happens to be is a large stuffed Polar Bear that reminded me of Vern and even more so now that is it filthy dirty.

See the resemblance?

I do not like to accuse anyone of planting this in the bushes in order to collect my life insurance, but I was suspicious. Luckily, my husband mentioned having the same reaction before I said a word about it, so I felt confident in clearing him as my number one suspect. In my opinion, that left two other culprits or perps, whichever you prefer. All my evidence seems to be pointing to one large Doodle who seems to think these same bushes are a hiding place for his toys and also his new dog bed.

Although, he may have had an accomplice. I cannot be certain.

I would love to hear what everyone thinks really happened!!

OMD!!! Laurie I thought it was a dead opossum!! Eeeeewwwww!!! Okay over that now...

So, here is my take on it. You said that you bought the bear because it reminded you of Vern. So it appears that Vernors had taken Mini-Vern under his paw and it now instructing him in proper Vern behaviors.  First the proper bathing technique (mud puddles) then finding the most cozy sleeping quarters (shrubs).  And lastly, since mom doesn't drink coffee, arranging an "event' that will help her wake up in the morning! What a good doodle!! LOL!!

Okay, NOW  the MOST hilarious line in your discussion is this one "so this is no way a competition..."  Bwaahhhhaaa! Nuff said! :)

Ricki, You know me too well. Everything in my life is a competition :) I think you have hit the nail on the head and I like Big Vernors and Mini-Vern...LOL! Maybe I should start drinking coffee and avoid this type of thing in the future...haha!
Good idea you PBS and coffee hating one.
LOL!!!
LOL
Hoooweeeee...I too thought that was a dead possum!  I had to remove one from the yard/sidewalk one time, a procedure from which I've never quite recovered, especially since I put off doing it for a few days, hoping some kind soul or coyote would take care of it.  Yes, definitely a Vernors thing.  (Love your description of your outfit...LOL)
Pat, I would have had to wait until someone else could help me. I can't even pick something up like that with a shovel. I am like Vern...a big Chicken :)
First, I'd love to comment on how Vern loves to lay in an evergreen groundcover. How does he find this comfortable?!?!? Hilarious!!! I think Fudge is the brains behind this (and every) operation, and Vern just has a fantastic sense of humour, and goes along with whatever he finds funny. I would have freaked right out if I saw that thing in my backyard. We were chased (yes, CHASED) down the street by a crazy skunk the other day, and that did me in. Seeing this would stop my heart, for sure.
Sue, Chased by a skunk...OMD. How scary because they can spray a long ways :) You could have ended up plenty stinky. Who knows about Vern. All of a sudden he runs through those bushes and then lays right down in the middle and is content as can be. He actually comes out of there with stickers on him and could care less. Yes, Fudge is the brains and Vern is the brawn :)
Yikes, that would make me jump!
It did and that ain't easy in rubber boots...LOL!!
