OMG! I just tried one for the first time this past weekend. No backache, no swamped bathroom and no clean up of wet towels, etc. It was wonderful.
Update: The shop I used supplied everything, shampoo (several choices), conditioner, towels, scrubbers; even brushes and combs in the drying rooms. All I had to bring was my dog.
The first bath we gave Simon in the tub was such a pain! I think the clean-up was worse than the bath itself! And the backache...I took Ibuprofen for 2 days after! So, when it was time for his 2nd bath we decided to try the doggy wash near our house.....there's NO WAY I'd ever do it at home again! Well worth the cost of $12!!!
Are there any health or sanitary issues to look for in a self-service dog wash? We have one nearby and it originally sounded like something I might do, then the nurse in me came busting out and images of nasty germs, feces, fleas, ticks, bacteria- carrying-saliva danced through my head!!!! Do they sanitize after each dog???? Or am I being overprotective?
The dog wash we used sanitized after every dog while we were there; both the bathing areas and the drying rooms. The staff was constantly washing down tubs, floors, walls, glass, etc. I was almost concerned if I stood still too long I would get sanitized. =)
We scoped out the place a few days earlier to see what it was like.
Inspired by this post and the replies I googled self service dog baths and found 2 near to me. Who knew? One is in a Petco and one seems like a privately owned shop. I certainly will think about this for the next baths. My vertebrae and discs will be pleased. The private store even offers emergency appts. for deskunking! Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
My daughter swears by the self-service dog wash in her neighborhood. She has a black lab. The one she goes to will supply the shampoo etc. if you wish.
Ouch! That is a lot. The one I used and the others I googled for this area charged no more than $18 (and that was for the giant breeds) for the first dog and then half price for the second dog. Sounds like the shop near you could use some competition. =)
