My LB Luah has some funny behaviors that I have not seen in my previous dogs and I am wondering if it is a doodle thing... She decides what tennis ball she wants to fetch and she will not bring back another one that I throw. She does this in the dog park too where as you know there are tons of tennis balls laying around. She also greets us with a stuffed toy in her mouth and proceeds to "talk" to us with low growling sounds. Lately she has also become rather particular about her doggie friends. Some dogs she will encourage to play others she will "snipe at". I guess in general I think doodles have a very particular personality and they know what they want! LOL What funny personality traits do your doodles have??
Lucy HAS to greet everyone that enters the house with a "present" as I call it. She will run and pick up anything she can and take it to the visitor. She will even bark with the "present" in her mouth. It is the funniest thing. My DH says it is the retriever in her.
One of my doodles has to greet everyone with something in his mouth. On a particularly clean day at my house (ie, no shoes laying around) all that he could find handy was my daughters clarinet that she had put down! That was pretty funny! My other doodle doesn't greet with objects in her mouth. My friends Lab also greets with an object. Mine aren't particular about what they fetch, although they do have favorites! One of my doodles will play with anyone, the other is more selective. They each seem to have very distinctive personalities.
Toby greets everyone with something. It's always one of "his" things - a bone, toy, etc. He doesn't you to have it, he just wants you to see what he has. I think it's the retriever in him too.
Samantha will find a 'perfect' ball in the dog park. Should another dog take it she refuses to play with another one. She patiently waits for the ball to be free again for her to play with it!
Rosco also likes to grab a toy (usually one of his bones) in his exuberance.... He might first prance toward you with it and then immediately find a spot to lay down and chew!
Here's a strange Doodle behavior. When I take Guinness to Petco I now drop the lead part of the time since I'm starting to work with him on "off lead" obedience. His new trick is to go straight to the cash register and sit and stare at the cashier....he knows he/she gives treats. Sure enough he gets a treat from their bucket. He takes it and then spits it on the floor and looks pathetic again to get another one. Usually it works and the cashier assumes he didn't like the first one and gives him another one. Once it stops working (usually after the second or third treat) he collects the ones on the floor, lies down, and enjoys his little "feast". I probably should be stopping him, but I find it too entertaining to interfere with.
